Hotel L'hermitage Gantois Hotel L'hermitage Gantois Hotel L'hermitage Gantois

  Hotel Information

Historical charm near picturesque old town...

Housed in a 15th-century listed building with Gothic façade and many original features, the contemporary Hotel L'Hermitage Gantois is located within one kilometre of Lille's old town and the Grand'Place. The nearest airport is Lille Lesquin Airport (LIL), 10 kilometres away.

A black and white marble- floored gallery overlooking the Cour d'Honneur shows temporary modern art exhibitions, while the small museum houses a collection of curious pieces dating from the hotel's days as a hospice. Books about Lille can be perused in the armchairs of the wood-panelled library just off the Grand Salon, while benches in the shade of an ancient glycine tree provide a pleasant space to relax in the Cour des Soeurs courtyard during summer.
LOCATION

Hotel L'Hermitage Gantois is centrally located within a kilometre of Lille’s old town and Grand’Place.
PROPERTY AMENITIES

* Guests of Hotel L’Hermitage Gantois enjoy a complimentary breakfast each morning.

* Restaurant de L’Hermitage Gantois:
The restaurant is a bold mix of old and modern, with an original vaulted ceiling painted red and gold, a polished black marble floor, crisp white tablecloths, black, white and gold crockery and fresh flowers. Meat and fish specialities dominate the menu and sample dishes include Veal’s Liver with Conserved Shallots and Creamed Horseradish Sauce, and Crab Brandade with Shellfish Oil and Crunchy Langoustine Tails. Open for buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner.

* Estaminet Gantois:
The Estaminet comprises two rooms: one on street level with a beamed ceiling, tiled floor and wood-panelled zinc bar, and the second in the vaulted cellar with brick walls, discreet lighting and period features. It serves regional favourites such as Moules-Frites (mussels cooked in white wine served with French fries), Grilled Rib Roast and Chicken Liver Terrine. Open for lunch and dinner.

* L’Hermitage Gantois Bar:
Formerly a courtyard, the bar is overlooked on three sides by the historic buildings that comprise the hotel. The atrium roof and glass façade let in natural light and, teamed with the leather sofas and easy chairs, give a modern feel to this area. The bar serves breakfast and afternoon tea as well as light snacks and a range of drinks. Live piano music is played every evening and guest artists appear on Saturday evenings.

* The hotel has a number of adaptable rooms for meetings, conferences, cocktails parties, banquets and weddings. The oldest part of the hotel, the Salle des Hospices, dates from 1460, and can accommodate up to 200 people in an elegant setting with chandeliers, stained-glass window, high vaulted ceiling and a rare 15th century fresco.
ROOM AMENITIES

* Hotel L’Hermitage Gantois features 67 air-conditioned guestrooms over three floors. Refurbished in 2003, rooms combine original features with stylish contemporary decor in warm red or blue tones, with oak panelling, Louis XV-style seats, and chairs designed by Philippe Starck.

* All rooms include minibars, wireless Internet access, safes, and televisions with cable channels and pay movies. Carrara marble bathrooms feature black, grey or beige tiles, stainless steel fittings, showers, tubs and fluffy white bathrobes.

"Great Hotel in Lille"
My wife and I and our two sons stayed 4 days for her birthday. This is an excellent hotel in a refurbished ancient hospice, situated close to the centre of Lille (Grande Place, about 10 minutes walk) via shopping streets. It is very close (5 minutes) to the Musee des Beaux Arts which has an extensive range of pictures from all periods. The hotel has 2 very good restaurants at the high and medium price levels, several sitting rooms, a library, a large atrium bar, 2 quiet box hedge and flower gardens to sit and read in, etc. and a museum of medical equipment from its hospice days. One bonus is that parking is free in August throughout the city!

"Superb Hotel"
This is without doubt the best hotel in Lille. The location is great..just a 4 or 5 minute easy walk to the Grand Place and the centre. We had several minor problems and in fact had to move rooms, but the staff were actually superb and responded very quickly, effectively and cheerfully to everything. The tall multi- lingual black guy on reception was probably the best front-of-house person we have come accross in many hotel stays around Europe. I would not recommend that you pay for parking however as it 18 Euros and their car park is 400 yards away..the parking is easy outside in the wide street at the front or any of the roads around the hotel and I would avoid room 115 on the ground floor as it backs onto their art gallery where they have evening functions and also fronts onto a private dining room where they also have functions. The food in the restaurant was absolutely superb. As an aside, be aware that commercially Lillle like most of France is closed on Sundays and not much open on Saturday mornings either...this is due to the oppressive trade union laws that make it an offence to work more that 35 hours in a 7 day week !...also, like most of France the French all eat at the same time...so dont expect to have lunch after 2pm or to be able to book a table for dinner much after 9pm ...great Sunday Market about 15 minute easy walk from the hotel.

"Hotel L'Hermitage Gantois, Lille"
We went for a weekend break via Eurostar booking travel and accomodation all on E* website. Overall very good value. The hotel was comfortable and our room, which was probably a standard, had a very good bathroom. Staff were friendly but not oppressively so. The only slight let down was the food at Hotel L'Hermitage; I would recommend going out to eat. You can probably find a good meal for less money and in a slightly less stuffy atmosphere.

"A Fabulous, Safe Place to Stay"
Firstly, we were 2 women staying at the hotel, wandering everywhere and returning late by foot and didn't feel at all unsafe walking around the area. The hotel is located 10-15 min walk from the centre. The hotel is fabulous, especially if you want a setting that's romantic and quiet. There are so many public rooms and corridors to explore and you can quite often be the only ones in the library or salon. We had a great time wandering around and relaxing in the bar. The staff were very friendly, helpful and generous. Although the room was slightly smaller than expected it wasn't cramped and the facilities were more than adequate with a large bathroom. We didn't have the breakfast (after reading the reviews on here) but we did order a pot of tea & coffee to be delivered to our room in the mornings which cost 4 euros each (same as the cost in the bar). We will be recomending this hotel to everyone we know. Definitely go to the fantastic CAFE Sabastopol across from the Michelin starred restaurant. Beautiful food (VERY reasonable), relaxed and friendly, informative owner. Just a few tables so get there early or book as people were being turned away soon after we arrived (7.30pm). Lille is beautiful at christmas time - like a classy santa's grotto.... Fab for filling your boots with christmas spirit. Certainly washed away my bah-humbug tendencies!
