"Great Hotel in Lille"
My wife and I and our two sons stayed 4 days for her birthday. This is an excellent hotel in a refurbished ancient hospice, situated close to the centre of Lille (Grande Place, about 10 minutes walk) via shopping streets. It is very close (5 minutes) to the Musee des Beaux Arts which has an extensive range of pictures from all periods. The hotel has 2 very good restaurants at the high and medium price levels, several sitting rooms, a library, a large atrium bar, 2 quiet box hedge and flower gardens to sit and read in, etc. and a museum of medical equipment from its hospice days. One bonus is that parking is free in August throughout the city!

"Superb Hotel"
This is without doubt the best hotel in Lille. The location is great..just a 4 or 5 minute easy walk to the Grand Place and the centre. We had several minor problems and in fact had to move rooms, but the staff were actually superb and responded very quickly, effectively and cheerfully to everything. The tall multi- lingual black guy on reception was probably the best front-of-house person we have come accross in many hotel stays around Europe. I would not recommend that you pay for parking however as it 18 Euros and their car park is 400 yards away..the parking is easy outside in the wide street at the front or any of the roads around the hotel and I would avoid room 115 on the ground floor as it backs onto their art gallery where they have evening functions and also fronts onto a private dining room where they also have functions.
The food in the restaurant was absolutely superb. As an aside, be aware that commercially Lillle like most of France is closed on Sundays and not much open on Saturday mornings either...this is due to the oppressive trade union laws that make it an offence to work more that 35 hours in a 7 day week !...also, like most of France the French all eat at the same time...so dont expect to have lunch after 2pm or to be able to book a table for dinner much after 9pm ...great Sunday Market about 15 minute easy walk from the hotel.

"Hotel L'Hermitage Gantois, Lille"
We went for a weekend break via Eurostar booking travel and accomodation all on E* website. Overall very good value. The hotel was comfortable and our room, which was probably a standard, had a very good bathroom. Staff were friendly but not oppressively so. The only slight let down was the food at Hotel L'Hermitage; I would recommend going out to eat. You can probably find a good meal for less money and in a slightly less stuffy atmosphere.

"A Fabulous, Safe Place to Stay"
Firstly, we were 2 women staying at the hotel, wandering everywhere and returning late by foot and didn't feel at all unsafe walking around the area. The hotel is located 10-15 min walk from the centre.
The hotel is fabulous, especially if you want a setting that's romantic and quiet. There are so many public rooms and corridors to explore and you can quite often be the only ones in the library or salon. We had a great time wandering around and relaxing in the bar. The staff were very friendly, helpful and generous.
Although the room was slightly smaller than expected it wasn't cramped and the facilities were more than adequate with a large bathroom. We didn't have the breakfast (after reading the reviews on here) but we did order a pot of tea & coffee to be delivered to our room in the mornings which cost 4 euros each (same as the cost in the bar). We will be recomending this hotel to everyone we know.
Definitely go to the fantastic CAFE Sabastopol across from the Michelin starred restaurant. Beautiful food (VERY reasonable), relaxed and friendly, informative owner. Just a few tables so get there early or book as people were being turned away soon after we arrived (7.30pm).
Lille is beautiful at christmas time - like a classy santa's grotto.... Fab for filling your boots with christmas spirit. Certainly washed away my bah-humbug tendencies!
