"Great stay in Madrid"
Just returned from a trip to Europe and stayed at the Hotel Lope de Vega for 2 nights in Madrid. The location is outstanding. It's on a small street off of Paseo del Prado and within walking distance of several areas - Prado, Puerta del Sol, Gran Via - and you can pick up the tourist bus right by the Prado. The hotel was very clean, and the staff was friendly and helpful and speak English for those that don't speak any Spanish. The breakfast was not included with our stay but very reasonably priced and delicious - one of the best continental buffets we had at all the places we stayed. Be warned of the uncensored adult channels on the TV. Can be quite shocking since it's unexpected...You can request to have the channels blocked during your stay.

"What a gem!"
Just returned after spending three nights at the Lope de Vega - what a gem of a place!
Thanks to the reviews already on the site I knew what to expect and I wasn't disappointed. The location is superb - on the doorstep of the big three and the other major attractions were within walking distance.
The hotel itself was clean, welcoming and manned by helpful staff, the majority of whom spoke very good English.
The room was of a good size, clean, efficient aircon - needed as it was pretty warm even in October and very importantly quiet!
Good selection of food at the beakfast which set us up well for the day.
Would certainly recommend the Lope de Vega and will stay there again when we next visit Madrid.

"Really Nice Hotel"
Stayed at the Lope De Vega in October 2005 for 3 nights. For the price, you absolutely can't beat it. I paid 255 Euro for 3 nights. As was said many times, it is across the street from the Prado.
The area is a lot of fun. Head over to the next street, Calle De Las Huertas where there are lots of small restaurants and good people watching. Also, there was a really nice small restaurant just past the Plaza De Jesus where we had breakfast. There are 3 Metro stops which are about 10 minute walks. We walked to all 3 and the closest is probably Anton Martin although Atoche is probably easiest to find. As for walking, I think the estimates here to Puerta del Sol are not correct. Expect about 20-25 minutes. But central Madrid can easily be walked. We walked back from the Palace and it was very interesting and didn't take too long.
If you are a light sleeper (which I am not), ask for a room not on the Calle Lope de Vega. I was on the Lope De Vega side and the car noise from Calle Del Prado could make it more difficult to get to sleep.
One last thing. Watch your wallet! I was pickpocketed on the train. But as far as the Hotel, I wouldn't even try anyplace else.

: "Hotel Lope de Vega -- A Strong Candidate for the Best Madrid Hotel"
We appreciated the comments given by others using the tripadvisor's website, so we are returning their favor.
My wife and I stayed at the Lope de Vega Hotel for nine evenings in November 2005. We would recommend this hotel as excellent, one of the best we have encountered in many years of travel. The hotel is clean, staff is helpful -- we don't speak Spanish - and most hospitable, and the convenient to everything location across the wide boulevard from the Museo Prado for the price has to be one of the best values in Madrid. Our room was European style in space, well appointed with modern furnishings and a comfortable bed. Housekeeping is absolutely high quality as was the service of the complete hotel staff. We did not take advantage of the hotel cafeteria; but the two breakfasts we took there were worthy of recommendation as well. But then, there are a sufficient number of good restaurants, tapas bars and cafeterias around the hotel to tempt the visitor. The only problem we encountered was the down Internet; but then at the suggestion of the hotel staff we walked a few blocks to the Hotel de Prado, the Lope de Vega's sister hotel, where we were provided Internet access. By the way, the Hotel de Prado looked as great as the Hotel Lope de Vega -- just in case the de Vega is fully booked. Obviously, we would stay at the Lope de Vega again.
