Hotel Martinez Hotel Martinez Hotel Martinez

  Hotel Information

Has a fresh and comfortable atmosphere...

Hotel Martinez is facing the sea and in the heart of downtown, a 5 minute walk from the Palais des Festivals.

The hotel has a beautiful, very large lobby area, with the concierge desk to the left of the entrance. The reception desk is at the far end of the lobby. It is a low dark wooden desk and for check in, out clients sit down in comfortable leather armchairs. To the right of the entrance is a large comfortable lounge followed by the bar area.

The hotel has one of the most famous restaurants in Cannes, where one can enjoy gourmet cuisine in a cinema world atmosphere. This is the formal restaurant, which has been awarded 2 Michelin stars, and it is located on the first floor above the informal restaurant, where the breakfast is served. In the warmer months meals are also served on the hotel's terrace around the pool.

All the rooms are comfortable and very nicely decorated. They are spacious and in exceptional condition.
LOCATION

Hotel Martinez is located on the Croisette and not far from the congress centre, Palais des Festivals is a 10-minute walk away.
PROPERTY AMENITIES

* Palme d’Or:
Open for lunch and dinner five days a week, the Palme d’Or offers a much-acclaimed gastronomic experience. The chef, who has obtained two Michelin stars, serves a modern interpretation of Mediterranean cuisine. Signature dishes include Carrot Gnocchi with apples, peas, or melon depending on the season. The restaurant was refurbished in 2003 in subdued tones of plum, orange, and beige, while retaining its film theme in the palm-motif of the carpet and the black and white photos of past festivals. With its own dedicated lift and a chocolate-leather cushion provided for each lady to place her handbag upon, this is a favorite haunt for pampered gourmets. The restaurant also has a cigar lounge and cellar where wine tastings can be held.

* Restaurant Le Relais:
Open everyday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine with a focus on seafood and local produce. With light wood paneling and neutral furnishings, the restaurant extends onto a terrace, overlooking the pool.

* Amiral Bar:
Next to the Restaurant Le Relais and overlooking the poolside, the Amiral bar serves drinks from morning until late evening. With its club-like ambience of dark wood and red furnishings, the bar is buzzing on evenings when Jimmy McKissic (a pianist who fills Carnegie Hall for an annual one-night only performance in New York) performs on the grand piano.

* Restaurant de la Plage.
The hotel’s large private beach has a restaurant, which is open for lunch from April to October. In a relaxed ambience of teak chairs and canvas, the Restaurant de la Plage serves salads, grills, spit roasts, and stir fried food. The restaurant also has a bar, La Rotonde, which is open from morning until late evening, serving cocktails, snacks, and even breakfast. There are regular firework displays on summer evenings.

* The Givenchy spa has eight treatment rooms offering facial and body care, relaxation, hydrotherapy, phytotherapy, massages, lymphatic drainage, and thermal mud and alga wraps. The hotel also has a hair salon, solarium, and fitness room where guests can work out on a balcony overlooking the sea. During the summer, supervised child care and activities are available.

* Fifteen conference and banqueting rooms accommodate from 15 to 1,000 guests. The 930-square-meter Royal Galuchat Salon has a lighting system with 18 programmable projectors for staging concerts, catwalk shows, and other events requiring scenic effects.
ROOM AMENITIES

* The hotel offers 385 air-conditioned rooms and 27 suites including two 500 sq.m. terrace-apartments, 11 junior penthouse suites and the renovated "Suite des Oliviers" with a private jacuzzi.

* All have desks, minibars, safes, multi-line phones, and internet access. Fax machines and hypoallergenic pillows are available on request. The ensuite bathrooms offer hairdryers, bathrobes, telephones, makeup mirrors, and Annick Goutal toiletries.

"Wonderfull, luxureous and real French Riviera"
We spent a weekend at the Martinez in Cannes, and were surprised by the level of service of this hotel. We travel often, and mostly to nice hotels, and this was at the top of our experiences. The room (we took the cheapest one) was not very exciting, but it was clean, roomy and very well maintained. Z Plage was super, and definatly the best beach experience in Cannes. The most expensive spot on Z plage costs 40 euro per day, but it is well worth it. The restaurants are fantastic, and breakfast is well worth the money. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpfull. Conclusion.....We will come back..!!

"Great hotel, great staff - shame about Some of the guests"
Returned tonight from four great nights at the Martinez with my wife. Booked a transfer from Nice Airport which was an old Voyager minibus which had seen better days. It did raise a few eyebrows from fellow guests as it pulled into an entrance packed with brand new Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins and no less than three Bentley Continentals all together. All the same we were treated like royalty as soon as we pulled in. Check in was smooth apart from a long wait for our luggage which is very frustating when to want to change clothes and explore town. We got a great deal from British Airways for 4 nights at the Martinez for less than £500 and the room which could have cost £350 a night if booked directly was nothing special but certainly ok for what we paid in peak season. Drink prices were what you'd expect of one of the three top hotels in Festivaland - draught beer 9 euros, coup de vin blanc 8 euros, whisky/bourbon 15 euros. High but the same as we've paid in recent stays in New York and San Francisco. Only problem was the other guests. Wherever we go, and we have stayed at far better places, we always make friends - it might only be for a night or two, but who cares. Not at the Martinez - we initially blamed it on them being French, but later realised the Brits and Yanks were just as rude. If you're floor level is less than five you don't warrant a reply to a "Bonjour".....don't even think about a "Bonsoir" or a "Merci." Oh I'm probably just jealous of all their money. Jimmy the piano player is great and don't expect to enter or leave the bar without a comment from him. We both loved the old town and port, great value for food and drink (1.90 euros for a glass of wine) and ended up there most evenings, strolling back along la Croisette after midnight listening to some great street musicians, viewing great art (some anyway), stopping off at a few bars like La Scala and 72 La Croisette. Both of these are great venues for playing "spot the facelift."

"Luxury for less"
We had our second stay at the Martinez at the end of September 2005, just as Cannes (and the beach) were closing up for the winter. The Martinez was as great as we had remembered it: a wonderful Art Deco hotel with an understated luxury absent from the Carlton. Having bagged three nights (room and a super buffet breakfast for two) for just £340 for three nights with Expedia, we could indulge in the wonderful two Michelin star Palme d'Or restaurant (which should not be missed for a good value set dinner experience with lots of delightful extras thrown in) and the Givenchy Spa (with excellent massages). The piano bar, with Jimmy Mc on the piano, is also a delight. On the beach, which was fairly limited this time of the year, there is a very good lunch restaurant too. All in all, we will definitely be back.
