"I will return."
Stayed at the Mela for 5 days which is enough time to know the staff and accomodations.
The staff is commendable, customer service always a priority for them and they know what their doing, thank you.
Accomodations.
From the moment I walked in I knew it was going to be a good experience, the lobby is well maintained even thru a winter storm, loved the complementary newspaper in the morning to check on the weathercast every morning.
The rooms are brand new and are just like the pictures from the ad. No tricks here, the LCD tv has a lot of channels to choose from including the local networks to check on evening news before heading out to dinner, also an alarm clock with CD and mp3 connection for my iPod was a nice device to have in the room.
The bed is very comfortable and it was very rewarding after a long day out in Manhattan.
The bathroom is very clean and everything in working condition, here I would like to add the complemenatry bath products are excellent and a hair dryer is available as well.
For the New York standars the Mela is well above in service, room quality, bathroom, location and price. I will return to the Mela no doubt and deffenatly I reccomend this hotel for your next visit to New York.

"Great Stay at a New Hotel"
I stayed at Hotel Mela for three nights over Presidents' Day Weekend. I booked the lowest room category - Superior - for $200/night on the hotel's website.
As noted by previous reviewers, the Superior rooms are quite small. I would estimate that my room was between 140 and 160 square feet, including the bathroom. However....the layout of the room was such that it didn't seem annoyingly smaIl. I have stayed in similar size rooms at the Paramount and the Carlton on Madison and they both felt much smaller due to layout. The Hotel Mela room layout maximized usage of the space and felt larger than it was. I was there alone - I think the room would seem extremely small for two people. As noted, there is no luggage rack or any other piece of furniture to put your luggage on. Since I was alone and traveling light, I was able to just put my one bag on the floor betwen the dresser and the desk.
The furnishings and carpet are new, the bed and linens excellent, wonderful H2O bath amenities , etc. Free high-speed Internet is a great extra. Although near Times Square (between 6th and 7th on 44th), it was very quiet, much quieter than I expected.
The only major negative of my stay was housekeeping on my second day - housekeeping did not come until after 5:30 PM even though I was out of the room from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. I noticed when I returned to my room at 5:00 PM that five of the six rooms I passed, including my own, had the "Clean Me" sign hanging on their doors indicating that none of them had been cleaned either. Not sure what happened but seems to indicate a continuing issue noted previously by other reviewers.
Overall, it was a great stay and I thought an excellent value for $200 a night. I would highly recommend this hotel as long as you can get a rate that corresponds to the room size.
