An elegant building from the 1920's in a typical Florentine architectural style...
Thoughtfully furnished, the rooms at the Hotel Palazzo Vecchio stand out from other 3-star hotels in Florence for their sophisticated elegance and top level comfort and services making your stay in a hotel in Florence more than enjoyable.
The rooms in Hotel Palazzo Vecchio di Firenze are in the wing of an elegant building from the 1920's in a typical Florentine architectural style with a light facade divided by gray stone molding outlining the interior structure. An atmosphere of lively Tuscan tradition can be felt in the lobby and other public rooms, underlined by the furniture and floors inspired by the designs of the age-old working of precious stones and marble, beautiful examples of which are housed in the Mediceo Opificio delle Pietre Dure. The breakfast room is large and bright: a continental breakfast buffet is offered, to meet the needs of the Italian and international guests who are staying in Florence for business or pleasure. |

LOCATION
Hotel Palazzo Vecchio is located in a particularly strategic position in Florence. It is near the sites for trade shows and conventions, if you have come to the city on business, as well as the most important historical and artistic sights of the city. At the center of the so-called trade show and convention district of Florence, the hotel is opposite Palazzo degli Affari, a short walk from Palazzo dei Congressi and Fortezza da Basso, site of the most prestigious trade shows of the city (including the famous Pitti Immagine shows). To visit Florence, walk around the streets of the historical center, interesting and characteristic corners will accompany your stroll. Walk down Via Guelfa then Via degli Alfani, the Opificio delle Pietre Dure is at no. 78. Founded at the end of the 16th century, to manufacture furniture with stone, today it is a museum which houses beautiful inlaid stone and multi-colored marble works.
The hotel is also in the immediate vicinity of the Chiesa San Lorenzo, with its Cappelle Medicee, mausoleum for the Medici family, and Sagrestie (sacristies). The Sagrestia Nuova was designed by Michelangelo and here the artist sculpted the immensely charming allegorical sculptures of Day and Night and Dawn and Dusk.

"comfortable"
Hotel Palazzo Vecchio rooms are old, but comfortable. Italian breakfasts are nothing to write home abouty, but the Palazzo Vecchio's was a little better than average : a nice choice of cereals, fresh fruit, a couple disappointing pastries and rolls (the Italians would do well to learn from the Germans when it comes to breakfast) and some watered-down orange juice.

"Charming and quiet"
We arrived in Florence without any hotel reservations and just by chance stumbled upon the Palazzo Vecchio. Our room was by no means modern, but it was clean, bright, and by far one of the largest we'd had on our trip. It has a great location close to the train station and within walking distance of all the main sights, yet far enough away to warrent a quiet nights sleep. There are a number of restaurants very nearby, as well as an internet cafe right around the corner.
Unfortunately, because we had yet to adjust to the time change, we slept through the breakfast that was included.

"A pretty good deal for Florence"
Considering the ultra high prices of Florence and the traffic difficulties in this town, the Palazzo Vecchio was about as good as one can expect here. It's not in the center of town, but it is just a couple short blocks from the train station and only a few feet from a bus depot. It's only a 10 minute walk to the Duomo. I could afford to stay here and I am about as cheap as the come when it comes to seeking accomodations. As long as the room is clean and cheap, I'm happy.
Rooms are old, but comfortable. I've stayed here on three different trips. The first two times my rooms on the ground floor featured high ceilings and fantastic air conditioning. On my most recent visit (with a tour group) my single room was on the fourth story and the a/c pretty much sucked. There were no working elevators so it was a chore getting my bag upstairs.
