We stayed at the Polus hotel for 9 days in June and July, 2009. The hotel provides good value for money. Tesco supermaket is very useful for budget travellers. The 173E bus, which is a block away from the hotel, is very handy to take you downtown to catch the metro, take a train or see some sights. |

"Enjoyed the Hotel Polus in Budapest"
We stayed at the Polus 4 nights and liked it.
I do not understand the very negative review. We found the room quite clean and appealing and the staff pleasant, helpful and knowledgable. The building sure looks funny, but it works, we liked it, it's funny and fits in well with the somewhat post-modern surroundings of the shopping centre.
The staff among other things told us about the bus that takes 20 minutes to Keleti (i.e. in town) railroad & metro; it goes every 5-10 minutes every hour til midnight; so that isn't too bad. There is also a special Polus bus run by the shopping centre, it is not as often. All the staff spoke good English (not to be assumed in Hungary).

There is a lot of hustle and busle at the reception, and this might bother some people. Our room was above the McDonalds, so there are activities from early morning; we slept well and didn't find it noisy, but some might prefer a room on the opposite side if light sleepers. Breakfast was ok, buffet and geared to lots of people, there were a few things I didn't care for, but then eat something else, there is lots to choose between. It sure is convenient with the huge Tescos that is always open. We found a great local restaurant in the residential area 15 minutes away, but otherwise eat in town.
All in all I give it 4 stars, because it is more than I expect for a 3 star hotel.

So I guess I should find something to complain about. OK:
- We would have liked a refrigerator in the room
- The remote for the television didn't work and it took two days to fix.
- The elevator is too slow.
- Yes, the coffee does taste of dish water - it always does in East Europe!
- There are masses of young people in tours groups (we actually liked that).
- The restaurant (not run by the hotel) closes earlier than posted (10 pm).
