"Fit for Royalty"
This is a true five-star hotel. The faultless but friendly, service; the gorgeous lobby, the beautiful antiques throughout, the fine bed linens, the little comforts, plus the perfect location all contributed to our happiness for the six days my husband and I stayed there. It is big enough to offer privacy but not so large as to feel impersonal. It is an elegant hotel.
Our superior, double room seemed more like a small apartment than a hotel room. A foyer led to a medium sized room furnished in tasteful French antiques, including a crystal chandelier and an antique rug. The room was extremely clean and comfortable with every detail carefully thought out. The lighting was excellent and there was generous closet space--even a separate closet to hold our luggage. The large windows overlooked a terrace, and a tree lined street. They were soundproof and the air conditioning worked well. Every day the king sized bed was made up with fresh, monogramed linen sheets. The bathroom had a separate shower, double sinks, a large soaking tub, a separate toilet/bidet compartment, and a window. The concierge staff were exceptionally helpful in choosing restaurants and giving directions.
Excellent location for museum going--two minutes walk to the Prado, five minutes to Thyssen-Bornemiza. Near to the Botanical Gardens, too. Walking distance to many other site and near the main rail station, a convenience for day trips by train.
Tip: Our travel agent booked directly with the hotel and cobbled together several packages which helped lower the price and provided certain amenities--airport transfers, use of fitness center, a bottle of Cava and other goodies. One complaint: a "free dinner" included in one package was restricted to a limited set menu. We were encouraged to put the value of that meal toward ordering a la carte. We did so, but felt this restriction should have been made clear in the package description. The restaurant was beautiful but over priced and the food average. Do try to get the breakfast buffet included in your rate. It is expensive, elegant and excellent. American Express Platinum card holders get an automatic upgrade to a junior suite.

"Incredible Service"
Speedy check-in service with helpful bell staff who tried to speak our language - successfully. Welcome cake and water with glasses brought to our room by welcoming staff just as our luggage arrived as we were shown around the room by the front desk staff. Gorgeous all-marble bathroom with 2 sinks and separate marble shower w/ rain head and tub.; shower had great water pressure. Linen hand towels and huge terry towels on warmer and robes. Appreciated the 3 separate huge walk-in closets and view of Prado. We spent time touring and returned to our room to find bottle of chilled champagne with glasses waiting. Had dinner outside at their restaurant (in the garden) and the service was impeccable as was the ambiance. We had chateaubriand for 2 and was about 180euros. They had a fixed price menu for about 95euros that was several courses with wine pairings and included the wine - a good deal if you wanted to try 4 glasses of wine. The breakfast buffet was included in our 375euro rm and was excellent with several choices in a beautiful dining room even had warmed plates for the hot food choices). Our luggage was lost and the concierge made mult calls for us to try to obtain for us. The concierges (there were 2 or 3 at the desk everytime we went by) were most helpful in telling us what to do for our 1 day in Madrid.

"6 Star"
Spent a few days here with the Mrs and had a great time, Barca is lovely and the hotel is even better.
Although a trek from the Designer shops, Gucci, Vuitton etc the hotel is second to none, We stayed in a suite which cost a pretty penny but wa swell worth it.
The lovely bar downstairs is a nice and quiet environment, exactly what we were looking for and spent a few nights down there, the room bills was scary when we left but you only live once.

"lovely hotel"
The Ritz is a lovely old fashioned hotel. It is very central next door to the Prada gallery and within walking distance to most of the attractions. We arrived on a Saturday evening and were given a room on the 5th floor. On the original booking it had said that we might be upgraded to a larger room. We mentioned this and they promised we would be moved the next day. We were moved to a huge room also on the 5th floor which was really lovely. Both rooms had massive bathrooms and bath robes. There were no tea/coffe making facilities in the rooms but there was a fairly expensive drinks bar. Our breakfast was included in the room price and was very good. Lots of fresh fruit, cold meat platters, pastries and full cooked breakfast. The service was one of the best I have ever come across in a hotel and the staff were really nice and friendly. All in all a very enjoyable trip. I would certainly recommend this hotel. OK the restaurant and lounge drinks prices are expensive but you do not have to eat there.

"Excellent"
Checked in at this grand hotel + were given a fabulous room. Staff were lovely + could not do enough. Only had breakfast at the hotel which was plentiful. Hotel in a great location next to the Prado + a short walk from El Retiro park. Really enjoyed this romantic stay!

"Excellent every time"
A romantic weekend in the Ritz with my girlfriend and I enjoyed every minute. They could do with a pool but the gym is adequate as no one is ever in there. They put us in a lovely large room overlooking the street. Breakfast was great, Bvlgari toiletries appealed to my girl friend, staff were lovely and the concierge was great. Best part is the bar - we asked them to try to make a Vesper cocktail and after we gave them the menu they made us a complimentary one. A great weekend.
For those who haven't been, the location is amazing. I went to Uni in Madrid and know where the places to see are and from this hotel everything (museums, plaza maya, plaza santa ana) is within a 10-15 minute walk.
I considered trying the Urban hotel for a change as it gets good reviews, however, having stopped for a drink in their small overcrowded bar I am glad I didn't. The bar was full of drinkers like us - just popping in for a drink and it was obvious that hotel guests couldn't get a seat.
I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Madrid except the Ritz.

My husband and I spent 4 nights at the Ritz in November. Before we arrived, I was somewhat concerned as some other reviewers had expressed displeasure with their accommodations. I must say that I was thrilled by our stay. As most mentioned, the lobby and the lounge areas behind it are absolutely gorgeous. The dining room's food and service at dinner were as delightful as the decoration. At check in, we were welcomed warmly and shown to our room on the 5th floor. We had booked a junior suite which proved to be so large, that it actually had two room numbers, the second for the sitting area. The room was elegantly appointed and the bathroom generous. The towels were changed twice a day and the laundry service, while super expensive, excellent. The concierge made dinner reservations for us every night, including 2 which I arranged by fax from home. They earned every penny of their pay, however, by managing to get us entry to the Palacio di Liria to see the Duchess of Alba's art collection. It was a wonderful stay in luxurious surroundings.
