"a good choice "
Solamar Hotel is in a great location with beautiful decor. The pool is located on the 4th floor. There is a bar with loud music by the pool. If you have to get to bed early or need quiet, the rooms on the pool side or probably not a good choice for the weekends. I stayed on the 8th floor on the pool side and could hear some of the music beat but not enough to keep me awake.

Solamar Hotel is conveniently located next to the Gas Light District and within 3 blocks of the stadium and convention center. The room was very clean, quiet and comfortable. High speed wireless and ethernet worked perfectly.

"Swanky, classy hotel with great service!"
I had a friend who lives in San Diego recommend this hotel as she had hung out there one night. We were traveling through and spent the night there. The hotel staff is fantastic...so friendly and at the top of their game. It's within walking distance of the gaslamp and Horton plaza shopping mall. Actually, it's perfect because it's far enough from the Gaslamp noise but only a couple blocks' walk. This is a Kimpton Hotel by the way, so if you love their style, this is another great example of it. Ultra-chic and very stylish. Lobby is beautiful and there's a fun little sitting area with a big fireplace. Our room was overlooking the pool and bar. The bed was very comfortable and they also upgraded us to an "extended tub"...it was an extra-long jacuzzi tub. Interesting, I'm not sure what the benefit of extra-long was because it didn't fit 2 any better than a regular bathtub, oh well. :) They do have FUN animal print bathrobes...I so wanted to take one but they were custom for the hotel and I'm sure it would have cost about $200! We went down to the pool bar area and again, very swanky with long couches and big bowl firepits all over. Partial view of the city, very cool. One weird thing was that they wouldn't let us smoke over by the firepits (against the edge of the building) but we could smoke at the bar, where all the other people were sitting. Wouldn't it be the other way around? Anyway, all in all we loved the hotel and would definitely stay again. By the way, they are a very pet-friendly hotel if you have pets.

"A San Diego Favorite"
I absolutely love this hotel. It's my favorite to stay at in San Diego. Trendy and comfortable. I love the roof top bar on the weekends. The staff was ultra-friendly and extremely helpful in directions, restaurant recommendations and just their overall customer service. Valet parking is a little expensive, but easy access and friendly attendants.

"Outstanding Location and Service"
Hotel Solamar is another winner from the Kimpton chain. The decor is eccentric but stylish, with a very contemporary feel. Service was outstanding all around, from the attentive car valets and desk manager to the quick service in the wonderful restaurant. I particularly loved the 4th floor pool/bar oasis. Warning: this is a dipping pool, really, quite small and not meant for lap swimming or more than a few people at a time. Still it was refreshing after a day of hot touring. If you want real quiet, make sure to request a room facing away from the pool courtyard. We did, and got a great room on the top floor facing towards the Petco stadium, where we watched the fireworks after the Padres victory. The location puts you right in the middle of the Gaslamp district of restaurants and bars and minutes from the trolley and convention center.
