"A very good hotel, very nice rooms"
A very good hotel, very nice rooms, not the largest but what they lack in size they more then make up for in character. Much much nicer to stop inthen a bland "chain" hotel. Breakfast very good also.

"Oozing with character"
We thought the Waldstein was a great find. It wasn't too pricey, but you got all the character you want for a hotel in Prague for your money. The location is great - in a quiet area with cobbled streets and right below the castle. It was nice to have to walk over the Charles Bridge into the main part of Prague - you can never get enough of the bridge! The rooms at the Waldstein were spacious, and decorated charmingly. Although centred around a courtyard, noise didn't seem to be a problem, and the hotel appeared to be quite full over the Xmas period we were there. Breakfast is served in a charming old cellar, and was quite substantial with a nice buffet of both hot and cold foods. We never go for expensive hotels, so the Waldstein to us was quite a find and if we were ever to return to Prague we wouldn't stay anywhere else.

"Enjoyable stay at Waldstein"
We booked a three night stay at the Waldstein for late April via a low cost airline hotel website link, having previously consulted tripadvisor reviews 6 months ago. My wife and I are in our early sixties and we had booked a standard double/ twin room. We also arranged airport transfers via prague-transfer.eu for 500 crowns each way, which worked perfectly and was good value (Mondeo estate) Canadian driver was friendly and helpful with local tips and information. The Waldstein is in a queit courtyard adjacent to the Waldstein Palace and gardens. We had asked for a quiet room and were a bit concerned when the reception manager took us about 200 metres round the corner to a building on a traffic busy one way street, to the hotel's apartment annexe. However our fears were largely unfounded. We entered into a small lobby with a fully equipped galley kitchen, leading to an enormous room with two large twin beds and a single bed, plus a lovely antique dining table and six chairs, wardrobes etc - all very traditional and charming- plus small TV (the only English speaking channel was CNN). Leading from this main room was a door to a second small bedroom with another double bed (two twins together). A clean well equipped bathroom was accessible from either bedrooms. We used both bedrooms during our stay and the smaller rear room was very queit with the door shut. All in all the accommodation was charming and comfortable, dsepite the 200m hike to the main part of the hotel for breakfast. Breakfast in the cellar of the main hotel was a comprehensive self service buffet with a full range of cereals, fruits, breads, cold meats, toast, juices, tea, coffee etc. My wife also had fried eggs (available to everybody on request). We were glad we had chosen a hotel in Mala Strana district rather than the old town (other end of Charles Bridge) as this was less busy but convenient for everywhere. Lots of good restaurants nearby to choose from. Typically we had two course meals with beer for about 1200 crowns total for two. We had a lovely trip. A highlight was a night at the State Opera House to see a very good production of La Traviata. Top price seats (booked via internet at about £31 each). What an experience! We look forward to returning as there is so much we did not have time to see or do in three days.

Expensive mistake
Stayed at this hotel 19 - 22 April 2006 Had been impressed by description and reviews. Extremely disappointed on arrival to find hotel surrounded by properties undergoing refurbishment externally and internally. Was shown to a room lacking light and immediately next to scaffolding and busy builders. On requesting a different room the surly receptionist offered me "the only other room available" which she had reserved for another couple due to arrive that day and tried to make me feel guilty should I take it! This room was a ground floor cupboard adjacent to lounge and exposed to workmen and cars parked immediately outside. When I enquiired why the rooms did not resemble any on the website she told me I would have to pay twice as much for them. In the UK I would have had a deluxe room for what I had paid to this hotel We did not enjoy any aspect of our stay and I would hate others to be as disillusioned as we were. Fortunately the delights of Prague were a great compensation. Good luck with your hotel choices!
