"Whole heartily recommended"
We booked our room reluctantly at XX Settembre in Rome, Italy, not knowing what to expect. To our surpise the, the hotel was very clean, it has either been renovated recently, or is brand new, the interior is pristine. The rooms are sparklingly clean and well stocked with all the amenities (nice linens, mini bar, wi-fi internet access). The hotel does not face a main road, but is facing an inner road, hardly ten meters from the main road. The location is quite central, its about a 5-10 minute walk from the main Termini station which connects you to all the sights in rome. There are plenty of good sit down restaurants, take away pizza shops and cafes within a few minutes from it. Continental breakfast was included in our room charges.
Something to be aware of, when we checked in, we were intialilly given a small room with very low ceilings (no more than 6 feet tall!!), but after I talked to the manager at the reception they were extremely accomodating and promptly gave us a much better room with 10 feet ceilings. Something to keep in mind when you are checking in.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel without any reservations.

"Excellent Surprise"
The Hotel XX Settembre was a pleasant suprise during my visit to Rome. I had to check out of the Domus Aurea after it was unacceptable, and found myself quickly needing to find a place. A friend recommended the XX Settembre, but I was reluctant after seeing no reviews on Trip Advisor. After finding other options full, I gave the XX Settembre a chance and am glad I did. This is one of those rare occasions when the hotel and the rooms are much nicer than the website lets on.
The hotel has either been recently remodeled or is brand new. Everything in the hotel is sparkling clean and feels very new. The rooms are huge, especially for a hotel in Europe. Extremely huge. The bed was comfortable, nice minibar and other luxuries, clean, large bathroom with a large shower, and fast and well-priced wifi access in every room. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Its on sort of a back street with no view to speak of, but is close to a major street that takes you a few blocks/5 minutes to get to Piazza Republicca, so not a bad location to be in if you want to be close to Termini station, yet still very easy to get to the sights of Center City or anywhere you need to go via metro. If you are a family from Suburbia, the location could make you apprehensive, though its perfectly safe. If you live in an urban area or are well-travelled, you probably won't blink twice at the location. XX Settembre is a great option for a nice hotel at a very reasonable price for Rome.

"Clean, Convenient"
The hotel was in an uninspiring little street in a non-picturesque patch of Rome, but it was only five minutes walk from Termini, and even less from Republica metro station.
It was very clean, the desk staff were courteous (they happily allowed me to check in early), and the breakfasts were OK.
Definitely worth considering if you get a good room rate.
