"5 star service!"
We stayed one night at The Howard and, although initially finding it insignificant outside (couldn't find it really as it only has two small gold plates outside with it's name), as soon as we stepped inside we were amazed! There is no need to go up to reception desk, someone is always ready to greet you when you enter. You can relax with some tea, a newspaper or magazine in the dry room whilst they take your luggage and assign you to a "butler". Whilst we took the lifts up, he was ready to greet us at our floor, and show us the way to our room. Check-in was brief, but personal. No check-in desk, it's done in your own room! And what a surprise! The room was gorgeous! With absolutely everything that we needed - even a trouser press! No tea or coffee supplies, but all you need to do is give your butler a call, and they will bring it up to you! And the bathroom is a comfortable size...with a decent seperate bath tub. As for food wise, we didn't have dinner at the hotel, but we had dessert in our own room which was very nice (peppermint souffle). And breakfast can be held either in your own room, or at the dining room.
Definitely highly recommend this hotel if you want a personal touch and 5 star service!

"Fabulous 5 star service."
We have travelled around the globe this year as far away as New Zealand round to the burj in Dubai and back to Scotland and how fabulous to be able to say that we had our very best service at a hotel in our own country. This Hotel doesnt have your wow factor when you walk in it hasnt got a swimming pool or spa but they have got the best service I have ever had and nothing is too much trouble. It is a lovely hotel with lots of charm and character. We were lucky enough to be able to stay in one of their suites which was huge and had 2 full bathrooms 'The Marchant Suite' and I would definately reccommend it. The hotel however doesnt distinguish what room you are in you will be given the very best of service from the staff and they will indulge you with breakfast served in your room by a butler. A wicked way to start the day as you are so chilled out and after a day walking around Edinburgh you must have dinner in the hotel. It was one of the best meals we have ever had. Perfectly cooked just as we had asked and served by a very nice friendly waiter who was only too keen to explain anything we didnt understand on the menu. The hotel has a programme to award its staff and they ask you who stood out and I can honestly say that everyone did. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble and if you are thinking of going to Edinburgh then dont even contemplate staying anywhere else. You wont be dissapointed.

"Memorable Stay"
I travelled to Edinburgh at the end of April for my 50th birthday with a friend. I did quite a bit of homework on hotels and after reading the reviews from TripAdvisor website decided this would be our hotel. Well what a great choice, the room was large and overlooked their courtyard which was very quiet. The hotel is in the New Town section of Edinburgh, but right on the bus route which will take you right down to the Prince Street area and also up to the Royal Mile (5 minute ride). Being from the States I was so surprised about the frequency of the bus service and how clean they were. However, it's also a quick walk from all the sites but away from the busy Rose Street area.
We spent three days in Edinburgh and took day tours to St. Andrews, Sterling Castle, Borders, and the Loch Lomond area.
Ross Hubert at the hotel even helped us find the best private tour guide we could have asked for....James Campell with Explore & Discover Tours. Reasonable prices, picked us up right at the Howard and brought us to locations in Scotland that no tour bus could take you. We contacted him via email and worked with him on all of our tours.

The restaurant food was the best I have had and the service was unbelievable. The staff made us feel right at home and made this trip one that I will always remember. If you want to stay at a hotel in Scotland and experience the real Scotland, you should stay at the Howard. I am already planning another trip to Edinburgh and will be staying at the Howard.
