"Even in the cold, gems like this shine through"
Taking up an extremely good flight price from Sky Europe we jetted off to Bratislava. Enjoying the seat allocation system made the journey so much more acceptable than the other 'budget airlines'. Well done Sky Europe.
We had booked into the Ibis Hotel at a very reasonable rate and was very pleasantly suprised to find it situated in just about the best position to move around the Old Town and some of the new. No cabs were needed, as the very inexpensive (just 25p for short journeys, and not much more for ones lasting an hour in total) tram, trolley and bus system is excellent and most of central Bratislava is walkable, so getting lost was not a problem.
All of the Slovakian staff at the Ibis spoke English and could not have been more helpful with advice and directions and making our stay feel something special. We found so many helpful Slovakian people during the trip, it must be a wonderful national trait.
All of the sites in Bratislava are worth a visit, including the tea and coffee cafes. Especially notable was the great view from the Slavin Monument - walking up to it is only for the very fit, so take a cab!!!, the walk down has many interesting sites to see and is easy.
Prices on most things are considerably less expensive than London. We ate 2 courses and a bottle of good local wine for about £20 for two in Lebowski on the main street, Michalska, it was good, we tried others but went back here.
For the shoppers get the bus over the Danube to the Au Park shopping centre, its full of a lot of individual shops we'd never heard of and great bargains, especially small electrical items in Nay.
Bratislava seems to have two faces, the winter one when thermals are definately needed, and yet the people are still very stylish and beautiful, and the summer one where the people seem to get ready to enjoy life outdoors. We'll be going back in summer to experience this.
Bratislav - a gem waiting to be discovered for a long weekend. Thank you to all the great Ibis Staff and thank you to the people we met.

"Nice Hotel, Fantastic Location"
The hotel facilities, they are ok and the rooms good (I stayed in one of the triple rooms). It's location is absolutely great as it's a short walk up to the Castle and opposite the bridge which leads into the old town. If you are worried about the type of room you are getting, they don't do twins, then contact the hotel first. I did and they were very helpful.
As for Bratislava, it is a beautiful city and the weather we had was fantastic, the people are very friendly in fact we were shown a local late night drinking place by one of the locals. Admitedly it isn't the biggest place but with the danube running through it you could take a hydrofoil trip to Vienna which is only 70 mins away. As for the earlier review by somebody saying there is no need to stay a night, if you don't you will miss out on a wonderful place.
The food and drink is generally very cheap and very good, although i wouldn't try the potatoe dumplings again.
All in all a fantastic trip, which was helped by staying in this hotel, when i revisit Bratislava i would use this hotel again.

"great time in bratislava"
this hotel is in a great location and as you would expect from an ibis it is clean and well run with helpful staff the only problem i had was the tram that runs alongside the hotel they are noisey as they take a bend outside the hotel and they do start about 5 am so if you book a room dont get a street facing room as for bratislava it is a great destination but we did feel 4 days was more than enough so we took a day trip to vienna going one way on a boat[ the twin city liner ]and returning by train it really is worth doing go to bratislava before they join the euro as i dont think you will still get beer for 50p-80p a pint when they do
