"Good location" There are two main reasons to stay here. The hotel value for the money in eastern Europe is about as good as it gets and the location is very good. This hotel is about 100 meters from a blue line subway stop and is therefore easy to get to if you are taking the subway. It is also about 100 meters from a large tram stop. There is no through traffic allowed on the street in front of the hotel so there was no traffic noise. The hotel had small rooms but they were average for Ibis. I have seen smaller from this chain. Breakfast was typical for the price. A few hot items, all the bread you can handle in several types, meats, cheeses and cereals. Sort of expensive for Budapest but it is convienent if nothing else. There is a lobby with free internet access and that was a plus. From the hotel you can walk to the Market building in about 10 minutes or to the beginning of the pedestrian only shopping street that is very famous. Or hop on the subway and be in the center of everything in about two stops. The hotel is not exciting and not authentic eastern Europe or anything. If that is what you are looking for, go elsewhere. But many of those types of hotels have spotty quality so be prepared for the worst. At least with Ibis you know what you are getting in every room. I would stay here again if in Budapest.

"A welcome place to say" We found this hotel through a Web site. I don't remember which. It was close to the subway and there were dozens of nice restaurants -- with plenty of outdoor seating -- right on our street. Our room had a great view of the Buda hills (on the other side of the danube), the staff was very accommodating (and allowed us to keep our luggage locked up until our evening train departure). Best of all was the price -- about $100 a night. (Skip the $10 breakfast and get coffee and a roll at any nearby place). There is a great market up t he street with the cheapest saffron I've every found. The best deal in Budapest does require a cab ride: The House of Hungarian Wines is in the castle district on the other side of the Danube. For about $20, you get a glass, a package of tiny cheese scones and two hours to wander in a wine cellar with up to 100 open bottles. Ah, to be young enough again to have enjoyed them all.
