"The Intercontinental Budapest is excellent"
I live in Budapest but spent a couple of nights in the Intercontinental in May 2007. I am familiar with many of the city-center hotels, and would recommend quite a few of them. However, based upon my recent experience I will only recommend friends and family stay in the Intercontinental. Here's why:
1. The room was excellent. It was sparking clean with a nice selection of pillows. We were asked for our smoking preference (non) and given an appropriate room. The bed was very comfortable, as the evenings were very quiet with no outside noise. A bonus to the room was the fantastic view of the Chain Bridge and Castle District (I've lived here many years and never tire of enjoying it.)
2. Staff. Excellent around the horn. From the doorman, who greeted me every time I entered/exited, to the check-in staff that handled all my requests with precision and a smile (which is many times rare in Budapest!) By the way, each Thanksgiving I order a dinner from the hotel and the service provided always superb as well.
Although I only number two items, I am a rather simple traveler. I will pay more for excellent service and clean/quiet and comfortable rooms. The Intercontinental delivered all three beautifully.
Enjoy Budapest!

"what a view!"
What a view - you HAVE to stay in a river view room as the view of the palace, river and bridge (both day and night) is wonderful.
Hotel is very well located, within walking distance of many shops, bars, restaurants and sights. There is a tram stop just outside the door of the hotel for further exploration.
Staff were great. As I stayed for quite some days I got a chance to try breakfast, lunch, dinner and a few drinks - all were superb.
rooms were comfortable and quiet, staff were well informed and very helpful with any queries we had. a top class hotel.

"Great hotel, great view"
Great hotel, great view, great breakfast. Pretty much everything was on a very high standard and there is nothing to complain. Maybe only the tax issue which is kind of annoying when all you pay is only after you see the price surcharged with x %. So, my suggestion is to never trust a price you see, but this seems to be a local behavoir and is not particular to the hotel, nevertheless ensure you always are ready to pay like 20% extra then mentioned in your booking.

"Great Hotel/Central with amazing views"
My partner and I said here in June 2006 and loved it. The hotel is much nicer in person them many of the outdated pictures online. It is very clean/modern/and nicely sized. We used the gym/business center/pool all with ease. Being right on the river provides a great cafe place to eat for people watching/relaxing. The hotel is literally in front of the Chain Bridge and there is nothing really out of walking distance. While far, we made the walk all the back from Szechenyi Bath which was pleasant.

"Great Loctation and Views"
As you would expect for this price bracket the hotel is excellent. We were given a lovely room with views of the Chain Bridge over the Danube.
A late check out was offerred at no cost.

"Fantastic water pressure!"
Stayed here with my partner a few years ago but I really wanted to record what a wonderful hotel it was. The water pressure for the shower was amazing - more like 'crowd control' than a shower. Lovely breakfasts, great little bar, and very professional staff. Shiny and luxurious, and close to everything.
