"Fantastic Experience"
Whenever you go somewhere like Latvia, choosing the right hotel is total guess work, but on this occasion I struck lucky.
Although a 15 minute walk from Old Riga, don't be put off choosing this hotel as it is 1st class. Only finished in March 2006 it's new enough to feel brand new, but old enough to have ironed out all the minor problems that are notorious with newly built hotels.
For approx £45 per night I stayed in a superb room that would cost £100+ in the UK. Everything was spotlessly clean, everything worked, and the view over the river was amazing.
I stayed at this hotel with two friends Tues-Friday and to say the hotel was quiet is an understatement! In four days I didn't meet a single person in the corridors and felt like I had the place to myself, hence three very good nights sleep (unheard of for me in a hotel!). I was told by the barman that things liven up at weekends!
There is a quiet but attractive bar on the groundfloor where a pint of lager costs around £2. There is also a five lane ten-pin bowling alley, two pool tables and a dart board. Also on the groundfloor is a fancy restuarant which I didn't eat in so I cannot comment. On the 9th floor is another fancy restaurant which has amazing views of Riga at night, but as I only drank in there I again cannot comment on the food. There is also a Spa and a gym on the 10th floor. The gym is pretty small so don't go expecting a Next Generation or Virgin gym!!
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who doesn't mind a 15 minute walk into town. It's worth staying here just for the views of Riga at night!!

"Good Riga hotel."
My mate and I stayed here for a long weekend and the hotel did it's job.
From the city it's about a 10-15 min walk across the Daugava to the old town. You can also get a taxi, which will cost from either 2 to 5 Lats.
We didn't get any breakfast from the hotel as we were always arriving in from a night out.
The rooms were ok, a bit basic which was proberly the norm for a Scandinavian hotel. But they always got cleaned and the beds were comfortable enough - which was good. The facilities were also good, the best being a 6 lane bowling alley, which came in handy on the last day. As the flight home was late at night :-)
Overall I would recommend this hotel to anybody who is planning a trip to Riga :-D

"A good budget hotel"
Stayed in the Islande Hotel, last weekend. (arrival 6th Departure 8th of July 2007) The hotel is clean and the rooms are a good size. I contacted the hotel directly whom I also booked a transfer from the
airport (cost 5lats approx £5) The hotel is 15minutes from the airport.
The only issues that I would say my friends had was that a lot of the rooms did not have mini safes in. Mine did however. In reception there is only 9 mini safes. So when booking I would recommend you confirming that your room has a mini safe to hold your valuables and passport etc.
Breakfast was good, except they could change the hot food on a more regular basis.
I found the staff helpful and they tried there best. But the majoriety of them had just started working and where young and lacking a little knowledge of Riga and what was happening in Riga.
I would recommend this hotel and contact the hotel directly for a better price.

"nice and new"
Good Hotel with helpful staff. Newly furbished rooms with Ikea-like furniture. Food came out from the kitchens OK, but it was all self -serve.
Best thing were the beds and the linen, Wonderful quality of bedlinen, Dreamy.

"nice and new"
Good Hotel with helpful staff. Newly furbished rooms with Ikea-like furniture. Being new some of the fitments were adjusting to use .... for example it won't be long before the shower bar falls from the wall and there wasn't a shower curtain so water sprayed on to the floor making it slippery.
The breakfast was a bit chaotic as the Hotel is used by tour groups and service is minimal. Food came out from the kitchens OK, but it was all self -serve.
Best thing were the beds and the linen, Wonderful quality of bedlinen, Dreamy.
