"Jane was warm and friendly"
Hotel Jane was very nice. The room was a larger one than the one we had in Rome. Our room was painted in a cheerful Tuscan pallete of bright earth tones. Writing Desk and two chairs were included as well as a fridge and mini-bar (which we did not use). We had a rear view of some gardens in the neighborhood. Bathroom was small but who cares? There were plenty of fluffy towels and hot water.
On the plus side the breakfast was great, and varied from rolls and croissants to cereal, breakfast meats of salumi and mortadella and cheeses, to fresh fruit and yogurts. Coffee was great, nice and strong.
There really wern't any minuses except distance from Centro Storica back to the hotel after a full day and evening of walking around this beautiful city. That's our fault, though, as we didn't learn the bus routes until the morning we left.
There are several very nice restaurants, trattorias, osterias and pizzerias in the immediate neighborhood (Santa Croce).
The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The night porter didn't have English so it's perhaps a good idea to learn some Italian before leaving home or keep a phrase book handy if you need to ask a question after 8pm. We managed quite well with a few basic phrases, as most people spoke excellent English in the service trades (restaurants, retail, and museums).
We liked Hotel Jane very much and would book a room there again should we revisit Florence.

"A good place for the money"
We went to Florence in late March. We got lucky with the weather considering there is a lot of walking to be done. The hotel was in the east side of Florence. It was about 20 minutes to walk to the center of town near the Duomo. The area were David is, was about 20 minutes also. The hotel is in a good neighborhood. It is 4 blocks away from the river. Walking along it takes you to the Ponte Vecchio. About a 15 minute walk. If coming from the train station, take the 14 bus located outside of the train station. Be VERY careful on the buses, we saw someone get pick-pocketed. It gets crowded and people don't realize they are being robbed from b/c it is so tight anyway. The room was small but the bathroom was great for European standards. The room we had downstairs was not ideal. The walls were paper thin b/c we were apparently next to the office. So on shift changes, it was noisy. In particularly at bedtime, as late as 11pm. After the first night, it wasn't as bad. Francesca was very helpful at the front desk. In the evening, the people knew less English but they got by. There is free internet across the street at their sister hotel. That was great and no one else was ever using it. They had a light breakfast but it was good. They made great cappucino. Go to La Taverna, about 3 blocks away, for dinner. Reasonable prices and close. Ask the front desk how to get there. I would recommend this hotel.

"A cracking hotel!"
Have just returned from a 4 stay at this hotel. Booked it after reading reviews on this site and we were not disappointed. Bright room, clean bathroom, fluffy towels each day and good choice of continental breakfast. Though we had only booked a triple room we found ourselves in a generous quadruple- great for three girls and all their luggage!
Staff were all friendly and helpful, including the older gentleman on the front desk. Despite his limited english (certainly better than our Italian!) he made us feel very welcome and helped us out on many occasions. There is a lot of noise from traffic and other guests, but we had experienced this in other Italian hotels.
The 15-20min walk to and from town along the riverbank is very picturesque. On days you are too knackered to face it, it's useful to know that the no. 14 bus stops around the corner from the hotel. It comes approx. every 15mins and drops you off at handy places, like the Duomo and the train station.
Would definately stay here again- great value for money.
