"Great Location, Nice Hotel"
We stayed here in November, 2006 and was pleased with the hotel.
The best part was the location very near the city center.
Nearly all our favorite places were in walking distance: the restaurants near the opera, Les Halles, and Sacre Coeur as well as the Louvre and Gare du Nord.
At USD 101 plus tax and fees on Priceline, I think I paid a bit much but I cannot say I am sorry.
The style of the hotel was typical of the tourist hotels in the city center but this one was a bit nicer and had bigger rooms and bathrooms.
We had a room on the premier etage and it was easy to walk up the one flight every day.
The window opened out to a classic view of Paris and rue Lafayette and there were plenty of cafes, restaurants, and small groceries nearby.
If I have the slightest annoyance, there was a bit of noise from the street because we were only one floor up and directly on a busy street so we had to sleep with the window closed.
The metro station was about a block away.
The staff were very nice and to show you they really care, the cleaning lady came running to catch us as we were entering the taxi to leave. We had left our car keys in the room and she rushed to get them to us!
Lastly, we were there for Beaujolais Day and the hotel left a nice new bottle of wine in the room with their compliments.
I would rate the hotel a 3+ star by US standards. It was certainly better than any 3 star I've been in in Europe.
I would most definitely recommend this hotel and I would love to stay here again.

"Good location and a room with a view"
We had a great stay at the Mercure Opera Lafayette. Our rooms were updated from the blue and white toile in some of the photos. It was the more modern brown tones shown on the Mercure website. Mercure is a chain, so it had the amenities and cleanliness you would expect, but also has a "boutique" feel since the hotel is pretty small and we saw the same 3 people rotating the front desk during our stay.
Our room was small (as you would expect), but very clean and nicely decorated. We were on the 6th (top) floor and had a little balcony with a view of the Eiffel Tower.
The front desk staff was very helpful with arranging restaurant reservations for us. We communicated in French and you might have trouble if you don't speak any French as there was some difficulty with some of our English exchanges. But if you write down the name of the restaurant and the time you want to go that would be sufficient to ask for the help you need.
The location is good. Close to two Metro lines. A close walk to the "Grand Magasins", but far enough to get non-tourist prices at nearby cafes.

"Very good and comfortable hotel"
We stayed 2 nights in one of their modern style rooms. I am easily disgusted by the interiors and decorations of most hotel rooms, but this one was a pleasant surprise. It was exactly as planned on the Accor site, which is why we booked it in the first place.
Bedding and towels were clean. Minor shortcoming was the limited length of the beds (1,9 meter) which is a common problem of French hotels and a even more common problem for tall people like myself.
The comfort and the room and the breakfast made up for it.
WIFI access is available through a network powered by Orange.
The hotel is within reasonable walking distance of Gare du Nord (12 min walk).
