"Really rather good"
I've learnt that in life, to promise less and deliver more always seems to go down well. This hotel seems to follow the same idea. Staff were helpful (both when I turned up at midnight without hinting when booking I might do this), or for asking for tourist info the following morning at check-out (and check-out was remarkably quick - almost no queue).
I booked in advance on the website, and paid 39 pounds. I expected a crummy room for the price (my local YMCA charges a good deal more), but got a room that would have been more than ample in a 4-star place. The room was very spacious, and had a comfortable bed. Bathroom was pretty good, but slightly annoying in that it had showergel attached high on the wall but no soap, which made the bath rather pointless - although the shower was fine. The loction is great - about 2 mins walk from City Hall and in a restaurant-area of town.
Yes it is a chain, but the staff are not bland, and the rooms do not seem particularly plastic.
All in all, a pretty good place to stay (especially at the book-in-advance price) - warmly recommended
