"Perfect for exploring Northern Iceland"
We ended up at the Hotel Kea as we had booked a 48hr break through Air Iceland for a trip to Akureyri which included return domestic flights from Reykjavik, 48hrs car hire and 2 nights at the Hotel Kea.
For starters the Hotel is very easy to find on your own. Come out of the airport, turn right and follow the road into town aiming for the big church that is situated next to the hotel (see pic).
Check in was very quick and simple and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room wasn't the largest that i've stayed in but was spotlessly clean and more than perfect for a 2 night stay.
It also had a decent view towards the fjord. (see pic).
After a quick freshen up and a quick check on the road conditions (using the free internet in reception) we headed out for the day.
When we arrived back to the hotel in the evening i noticed that the Union Flag was now flying on one of the flag poles. I asked at reception if they had many guests from the United Kingdom currently staying there to be pleasantly informed, no just you and your partner. (That's the only time i've had my countrys' flag raised just for me! A nice touch.)
We found the selection at breakfast to be more than adequate and could easily have stayed there all day had it not been for the amazing scenery that was beckoning us.
I'd reccomend this hotel to anyone visiting Akureyri but i'd advise them to really search for a bargin as our deal for hotel, car and flight cost us about 50% less than booking it all individually.
