"Excellence in everything"
My name is Christos Christou, ACIB, PMP, MBA and I work for Marfin Popular Bank Public Co. Ltd - Cyprus. For the purpose of working on a Project in Greece, I and a number of my colleagues stayed in Athens for 6 months - January to July 2007.
The travel agency has booked King George II Hotel, Athens for us in order to have the best living conditions during our long stay abroad. I feel that they knew what that means, as we all enjoyed the best hospitality, facilities, and service that the Hotel management and people are offering to all their customers.
Personally, I have made the best friends in Greece - the Manager and the employees of King George II Hotel, and I want to openly thank them in this public page. I cannot express with words the excellence that I enjoyed there, but I can assure every visitor/customer there that will receive this.

"Excellence and elegance"
From the very first moment I arrived at the hotel I felt welcome and special, all the staff was perfectly trained, kind and corteous. The location is stunning, and the decorations amazing... I expecially enjoyed the spa treatments, that made me feel like Cleopatra, and the outstanding dinner in the roof garden restaurant.

"Style and Grace"
Arrived mid afternoon and was immediatly impressed with what can only be described as an extreemly genuine warm welcome with smiles all round especially from me eminating from that feeling of total relief that you have chosen the right place to spend that well earned weekend of relaxation.
My room ...de lux 6th floor was furnished beautifully with an absolutely excellent view of the Acropolis...im informed that every room and suite in the hotel is furnished and decorated differently!!......that is amazing!!....anyway i was already in love with my room so i was'nt about to change.
Unpacked and took a shower beautiful marble bathroom then as i was feeling the effects of the flight i popped down to the Spa for a relaxing massage in superb tranquil peaceful surroundings then back up to my room for a short nap. Room service arrived very promptly ( 10 mins ) with my order of champagne.
Early evening and now feeling very pleased with myself for having chosen the King George i went up to the 7th floor to the Tudor Hall Restaurant........Magnificent is the only word that comes to mind!!.........high ceilings tall columns terrific views elegant decor..........food to die for!! and service always with care and attention to detail...........dinner in Tudor Hall is a must when you stay here!!
Nightcap in T-Palace and then back up to my lovely room for to sleep in total comfort............so ended my first day at the King George and the next 2 days just got better......I was alone on this trip but never once felt lonely the frendliness and warmth of the staff made every day a pleasure...........Thank you to everyone at this Wonderful graceful elegant Hotel .....I will be back!!!!

"One of the best hotels I've stayed in"
I have three words for this hotel - Oh. My. God.
I absolutely loved the King George Palace. I booked this on the first leg of a week in Greece for 3 nights, and I couldn't have been happier. Probably also happy because I got it on a corporate rate that was a steal (under 200 euros a night), but probably would have been happy had I paid even more.
First of all, this hotel has to have the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. I mean, it's freakishly good. It's actually so good, it's bad - we ended up lingering in bed well past 10 am every morning because we loved it so much. Coming from a hectic few months of work and travel, this was just heavensent to me.
The rooms are not overly large, but they are comfortable. They are done in that Versace / rococo style that befits grand hotels, all golds and cushions and heavy drapes. If you like scandinavian simplicity, this is not your joint. If you want to feel like a prince for a couple of days, absolutely. Our room had a large cushioned window seat, a smallish LCD TV with quite a few channels (you're in Athens, turn it off already and go out!), a comfortable desk area and free high speed internet. Small fridge, where you can fit your own stuff creatively. First class bathroom amenities.
The location is great - you are close enough to the Plaka to walk to it, but without having to suffer it. You can walk up to the Acropolis in 40 minutes. You are next to another 5 star hotel, the Grand Bretagne. You are 3 or 4 blocks away from the Kolonaki district with all the nice cafes and shops. You can even walk to the Monastiraki and Thission areas in 20 minutes on a Sunday. And there's an express bus from the airport that lands you on Syntagma square across the street.
Service was great - our power went out in part of the room (I guess a circuit breaker went out) and within literally 2 minutes of ringing the front desk the electrician was in our room. The concierge was very helpful on giving us directions to wherever we wanted to go (also helped with our missing luggage, which arrived the next day)
Small quible - no standing shower in the bathroom, only a hand shower in the large tub, which can't be clipped anywhere. You adjust to this rather easily but still should be fixed.

"King George Palace is a Palace"
Just returned from a 4-day stay at the King George. This is a truly fine hotel, with excellently appointed rooms, a great location, super staff, spa, pool, and elegant restaurant. It is perfectly situated at Syngatma, one of the best central squares of Athens. We booked a junior suite and were upgraded to one with an Acropolis view and a separate room for our 14-year son, who enjoyed being in a very large, compfortable room by himself. The suite has two very nice size rooms--a living room and bedroom--and a bathroom with both shower and tub. For spoiled Americans who are used to lots of space in their hotel rooms, this is the place. The rooms are also very high-tech, with a single panel that controls all of the lights and it is very easy to set up high-speed internet access. The hotel also includes in its prices a full breakfast. This is not any old breakfast with a few juice boxes, loaf of bread, and a self-service toaster. Instead, it includes a variety of fruits, breads, cereal, egg dishes (which you can request to order), fresh squeezed juices, and champagne. The location is excellent--the Metro is just up at the corner. The hotel is within walking distance of the Plaka area (although we always took the Metro which makes it just one stop away). The hotel is right around the corner from Attica, the main department store in Athens and close to other shops and nightlife. We can't wait to return!

"Great location"
Great location right on Syntagma Square. Very convenient access to the Metro system, including 6 Euro train to and from the airport. Well within walking distance to the Acropolis, Plaka, other major sights. Internet cafe across the street (2 Euros per hour). The room itself was clean, well-furnished, and comfortable; if not quite up to five-star standards (as defined by say, a Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons property), it was very reasonably-priced for what you get. The mid-level dining room was closed for renovations; didn't try their high-end restaurant. Overall a very good choice.

"King George -- Just Back"
We are just back from Athens this weekend where we stayed at the King George. It was wonderful. I travel a great deal and stay at a variety of hotels throughout the world. The King George is an excellent luxury hotel in a very good location. Service is excellent, the rooms are spacious and well appointed. Our bathroom was quite large with both a bath and separate glassed in shower with a rain head. If you pay for a room with a view of the Acropolis, the view is spectacular. Rooms on floors 4 through 6 on the front of the hotel overlooking Syntagma Square are the only ones with a view of the Acropolis, but it is on an angle off to the right when you are in your room, not as though you had a straight on view. Same angle as the Grand Bretagne right next door. So to actually see the Acropolis from your room, you have to stand at the window. Nevertheless, a spellbinding view. Even better is the view from the roof top restaurant, Tudor Hall, where buffet breakfast (at Euro25 ea) is served each morning. Would definitely stay here again.

"I literally felt like a king in a palace!!!"
Excellent service, friendly tactful staff that makes you feel at home and the best possible location in Athens. At night the Acropolis looks like a floating balloon ready to fly over your room!
When traveling in Europe I try to get good information before booking a hotel room. In the US you basically know you get what you pay for. That is not always the case in Europe. This time I was told to book Grande Bretagne and I did so for my 3 first nights. They did not have any rooms for my last two nights so I booked a room at the adjacent King George Palace. The first was not bad. You get the basic service you would expect for the price you pay. But at King George Palace I literally felt like a king in a palace!
B&O equipped rooms that are clean, spacious, with lots of extra amenities. Great food too. If I have to find a flaw It would be the renovation that was being held in the lobby. But even that (if I take the word of the staff) will result in a very hip downtown friendly venue.

"Where hospitallity is first priority"
Our travel agent proposed the hotel as they had good feedback from previous guests. It was really an excellent choice. Right in the center of the city, next to metro station and with magnificent view. We booked an deluxe room and we have been upgrated to a junior suite with Acropolis view as a compliment for our anniversary. The food in Tudor Hall was excellent anmd try to get a table in the veranda so you can enjoy the view to Acropolis.
The spa (although is not huge ) is really well appointed and the treatments very good and in normal prices.
What we really loved is the feeling that we were guests and not clients . We really look forward to our next vivit in Athens due to King Georges hospitallity

"Good value, very clean, great location"
Unlike some other reviewers I found the hotel to be excellent value, at US$220xnight, with the best possible location and in general clean and in excellent condition after extensive renovations (something you can't take for granted in Europe!).
The breakfast buffet is expensive and limited, but dinner or drinks on the roof-top terrace in front of acropolis is truly priceless. The Maitre´D is snobbish and should be changed, but the food and service is of a high standard.
The concierge was very helpful to us and arranged all our requests (dinner reservations, private tours and guides, shopping recomendations, etc.) quickly and professionally, I even saw him manage to recover some other guests lost camera from a cafe on one of the islands and have it brought to athens overnight (thats a feat in greece!).
I wouldn´t hesitate to recomend this hotel to anyone going to athens, just make sure to get a good rate :)

"Amazing Hotel!!!!"
I just came back from a 3 days escape to Athens. I stayed with my wife at King George II and i was absolutely impressed by the quality of the service and the elegance of the decor. This is a real gem, not so big as other expencive hotels and with a very stong personality. We had been at no charge upgraded to a junior suite in the front with smashing views to the Acropolis (what a miraculous site!!)and the house of Parliament. The breakfast was exactly what we wanted, stylish and top quality products and the dinnet at the Tudor Hall was again eating while watching the best view in the city (again the Acropolis). The rates at the Tudor hall were not so expencive (for the quality and the location) so we had dinner there twice (try also Mamakas at a new hip neighborhood Gazi).
The concierge gave us some very usefull tips about sight seeing and shopping (i really liked the Kolonaki area with expencive boutiques and elegant cafes).
The weather in Athesn in the winter is very good, we stayed outside all day long wearing nothing but a t-shirt.
My wife used the Spa (i m not a spa person) and she was thrilled.
All in all this is maybe the most elegant hotel i have ever seen!!

"very nice hotel"
I stayed one night at the King George II Hotel in Athens in a Deluxe Acropolis View Room.
The room is has a very old fashioned antique decor. Excellent view of parlament and Acropolis. Bathroom is rather small but has a good seperated shower and bathtub. The bed is comfortable the only critisism would be that the king size bed is actually to single beds pushed together.
Lobby area is very nice decorated and gives a classy style.
Breakfast at the restaurant on the 7th floor is a combination of served breakfast (drinks, bread, jam, freshly made eggs) and a buffet (cold cuts, fruits, musli...). Very good.
In my opionion one of the best places to stay in Athens. However a bit old fashoned atmosphere. One of the few 5* hotels in Athens which is really a 5* deluxe property.

: "We didn't stay here but...."
My wife and I had the pleasure of being guests of another couple who were staying there. We had drinks at the lounge bar, and ate room service in their room.
I must say that throughout our experience, every member of staff we met was courteous yet friendly. The service was excellent and the room we saw was large and very well-furnished. Everything at the hotel oozed quality and luxury. When we left in the early hours of the morning, the doorman very competently and quickly helped us find a taxi when there weren't many about.
Everybody is entitled to his/her opinion; but when a previous reviewer gives such a brief and negative review, and gives a star rating of 1 or 2 to all aspects of this world class hotel, you can't help but suspect that the review may be coming from a disgruntled employee or similar.
