"A stunning stopover"
This was our second stay and after a nine hour drive from Munich we were glad to arrive at around 7 p.m. A wonderfully friendly welcome. Perfect. Were shown along magnificent corridors to a very cosy and very "pink" room. Bathroom was beautiful with separate toilet and shower. Reception suggested we make a reservation for dinner and we decided on the Distillerie where we had eaten on our last visit. It was very quiet and we had the feeling that the Headwaiter would rather we hadn't bothered coming. We started with oysters which weren't very good. Then we had the steak and chips. This was pretty much thrown on the plate. Presentation was dire. I know there's not much you can do with steak and chips, but I've seen better presentation at a motor way services. We ordered the house wine (which is normally what we order and are most of the times happy with that). This made the headwaiter look down his nose at us even further. Considering the staff in the hotel were all so very pleasant, eating in the Distillerie was a great disappointment. If you are going to stay here, go for the main restaurant in the hotel. I'm sure that would be fabulous. Beds extremely comfortable (although we prefer duvets rather than blankets) and linen a very high quality. Breakfast was wonderful and beautifully presented. Check out was extremely friendly. It truly is a magnificent place to stay and we would stay again, but not eat at the Distillerie.

"WOW! -What a find"
We went for a special treat, wanting somewhere within easy reach of Calais but away from the day-trippers and we found it. The location is superb, and town square at nearby Bthuene is stunning (or will be when they complete the renovations, but look beyond the diggers) The hotel staff were superb, all friendly without being too much, and none of the starchy attitude you would get in a UK hotel of this calibre. They accomodated our o-level french and enjoyed translating where necessary. We booked ther stay in the castle break, but our room was in a new extension, 2 mins at reception and we were politely offered a stunning room in the attic of the original building, to be fair the first room was to a v.high standard, but was a "box" like any 5 star room...we wanted character and got it, with a delightful bathroom too. We are now planning to return

"a great place to stay"
We booked the dinner, bed and breakfast package. Super luxe room -warm and comfortable, lots of space and 4 poster bed. Dinner was outstanding with friendly and attentive service. Breakfast OK but nothing special. Furnishing and decoration in the style of the chateau but all new looking and well maintained. Staff welcoming and helpful. A great overnight stop.
