La Mamounia Hotel, opened in 1923 and located in the very heart of Marrakech, La Mamounia is set amid idyllic gardens that are almost three hundred years old and surrounded by the city's 12th century ochre-colored ramparts.

For 80 years, La Mamounia has emphasized the great traditions of Moroccan hospitality. We are considered a classic example of the great age of grand hotels of the 1930's, a unique blend of Art Deco and Moorish design.

Conceived in 1922 with one hundred rooms, La Mamounia was enlarged in 1946, 1950 and 1953. In 1986 we undertook a massive, nine-month re-creation, bringing us to today's level of magnificence. In 2000 and 2001, every guest room was updated and redesigned - combining a true Moroccan ambiance with every 21st-century convenience.

La Mamounia's name derives from the gardens, known three centuries ago as "Arset el Mamoun," named for Prince Moulay Mamoun, son of Sultan Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah, ruler of Marrakech in the 18th century.

Here in the heart of this Imperial city, royalty, connoisseurs and celebrities gather at the legend called "La Mamounia" to relax in an atmosphere that combines history with enchantment and luxury.

* No stay at La Mamounia is complete without lunch one day - or every day - at the poolside Les Trois Palmiers. Subtly shaded from the sun, lunch is a vast and delicious buffet: literally dozens of wonderfully prepared salads; your choice of steaks, chops and seafood for outdoor charcoal grilling by the chefs, plus an entire outdoor kitchen of Moroccan specialities. And then there's dessert: pastries, tarts, mousses, ice creams and an assortment of cheeses. You can choose your lunch yourself, or the talented waiters will choose for you. * Le Churchill Piano-Bar:
Named for our most famous guest, the Churchill Bar recreates the glamor of a New York jazz club in the 1950's. The walls are studded green leather offset with pictures of jazz-age luminaries. The singer-pianist entertains nightly.

* Le Bar du Soleil:
Aptly named for the sun (soleil), this delightfully romantic bar overlooks the gardens and terrace. Tables inside are in a warm and cozy atmosphere of wood and arts, and outside amidst trees and flowers.

* Le Bar des Trois Palmiers:
Ideally situated by the pool, this delightful small bar is the perfect spot to repose for a cocktail or an afternoon sorbet. This bar services guests relaxing at the pool.

* Le Bar du Squash:
Set inside the Health Center deep within our magnificent gardens, this is the perfect place to relax after a health-giving work-out, a game of tennis or squash, or a jog through the gardens.

* Le Bar du Grand Casino:
Modeled on the grand casinos of yesteryear, the Casino at La Mamounia offers 21st century gambling in an atmosphere recalling the grand days of the great European Casinos. The Casino has its own restaurant and bar. In the vast, vaulted Casino hall, guests can play roulette, black jack, poker and baccarat. The casino entry offers more than 100 gaming machines. Casino machines are available from 4PM; the main gaming hall is open from 8PM until all hours of the night.

* The cosiness, luxury, and charm of the twenties are in full harmony with sophisticated equipment. The 24 key request consoles, all linked to the different services of the hotel are set in elmwood bedside tables. Bathrooms are again very art deco with chrome fittings.
