"Fabulous and personal hotel"
For our stay in Nice we wanted a sea-view room. We requested a terrace rather than a balcony and this was excellent, even having sun loungers. Being up on the 6th floor meant all we could see out of our room was the Cote d'Azur!
The hotel is small and intimate. The staff were really friendy and after a few conversations knew I was trying to improve my French so would speek slowly and use easy French so I could better understand!
The food was excellent although we only had lunch here. Breakfast was on the expensive side (hence the 4 out of 5 stars) but with a parade full of restaurants close by we were happy venturing out.
The pool area was lovely too. All fresh towls were provided and the drinks come to you!
Because this hotel is built into the rockface it's quite a odd layout. The first floor of the hotel is several floors up so you have to be ok with lifts.
Highly recommended.

"Wonderful Experience"
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 6 nights in June and were very happy. The room was simple but nice and had a spectacular view. I would suggest guaranteeing that your room is at least on the 3rd floor. At first we were offered room 209 - which had a large terrace with sun chairs but when you sat down, all you looked were the buildings. So we requested a room higher up with just a balcony instead of the terrace - and we received room 306 - and it was lovely. While the room was small (no surprise in Europe) it was very comfortable and the bathroom was great. They supplied robes and turn-down service. I am usually very picky (I prefer to stay at Westins and Four Seasons in the States) but my expectation in Europe are low - and I was very pleasantly surprised with this hotel. The staff was wonderful - especially Sandrine and Sebastian (the intern from Belgium). There was one front desk person who you could tell was "fake" nice, but all in all - most were very pleasant and helpful. All of our requests were met VERY quickly. The location is ideal - walking distance to the "old town" area. I would stay at this hotel again - and I would highly recommend it.

"A gem of a hotel."
My husband and I stayed at La Perouse at the end of February, returning beginning March. We had a wonderful stay. The location is perfect. The hotel very comfortable and the staff helpful and friendly. We were very lucky to have wonderful weather and it was a real pleasure to sit on our balcony and look out on the Cote d'Azur. There are some wonderful cafes and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and you are close to the old town and the bus station - so getting around is easy. We arranged for the hotel taxi to collect us from the airport and drop us back and it was such a rest not to have the car. I certainly recommend this hotel and will definitely be going back for another break to this charming location.

"Best Hotel Ever"
My wife and I travel the US and Europe extensively and usually stay at name brand hotels for consistency. Hotel La Perouse was recommended by some business associates in France, who thought we should try a more quaint local hotel while in Nice. Boy, am I glad we took their advice!
Our stay at La Perouse was absolutely wonderful. Prior to booking a room directly with the hotel, I had read all of the reviews on TripAdvisor.com and was a little concerned about the few negative reviews I had read. After staying at La Perouse for 7 days, I must really question the travel background of the folks who wrote the negative reviews. Our experience was nothing like any of the negative reivews and was one that my wife and I will pleasantly remember for a long, long time.
First, if you want a view of the Bay of Angels and the beautiful city of Nice, you need to let the hotel know that. La Perouse is built into the side of a mini-mountain, just beneath the original medieval fortress that was the original settlement of Nice. Rooms on the first and second floors, for the most part, do not provide for a view of the Mediterranean. The least expensive rooms have a view of the rocks behind the hotel. The next price level of rooms provide a view of the hotel's courtyard and beautiful outdoor dining area (with lemon shade trees). But if you want the most beautiful view in the world, book a room on either the 4th or 5th floor. These are the best views in the hotel.
Our room was 401, a corner room with a wonderful bathroom and small balcony with a fantastic view. It was the largest room in the hotel (and the only one with a King bed). It was approximately 400 SF, which is large by European standards. Many of the rooms are much smaller, but still comfortable. Rooms 401-410 all had great views, however 410 is by the elevator (more on that later). Suffice it to say that you get what you pay for. I would expect that many of the negative reviews were from folks who asked for the cheapest accommodations and then expected deluxe price views. That isn't going to happen unless you are very lucky. If you want deluxe room accomodations, ask for them and pay for them. You won't be sorry.
One of the nicest things about this hotel and something we will always remember was how kind, friendly, and accommodating the staff was. I called the front desk once and there was static on the telephone line (which didn't bother me). Within minutes, there was someone knocking on my door to fix it. If something was left off of our room service order or if we just wanted a little more coffee brought to the room, it was done in minutes. Much better that US hotels. Housekeeping was just exceptional. Fine Fragonard (French perfume company) bath gels and soap left each day. Some of the exceptional staff members were the porter (bellman) Nicolas, Front Desk Manager Kristin Schulze, and Front Desk staff members Sandrine and Cathia. They were all so helpful in picking out restaurants for us and helping us to find places to visit.
One point to note: The hotel is not handicapped accessible. The elevators are very small and you have to take two different ones to reach the upper floors. The first elevator gets you from the lobby to the hotel's first floor (actually four or five floors up above ground level) and then another elevator to reach floors 2-5. Not a problem for us, but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone in a wheelchair.
While in Nice, I discovered the best pizzas I had ever eaten in my life at a sidewalk cafe near the hotel. The name of the restaurant was La Safari. Service was sometimes a little slow (to be expected in France), but the pizza was awesome. Another restaurant we found to be top notch was Le Grand Balcon, which is also near the hotel. In fact, La Perouse is only about 3 minutes walking distance from wonderful dining, shopping, and Old Town Nice.
Above the hotel is the remnants of the original fortress of Nice. It is now a park with some of the original foundations still intact. The views from there are stunning and I recommend you go up to the top with your camera. There is an elevator just around from the hotel's entrance and the cost is less than one euro for the ride to the top. There are stairs to climb if you choose to walk up, but I recommend you take the elevator up and walk down. Absolutely great half day excursion.
Our best day in Nice was when we hired a private limo to give us a tour of Cannes, St. Paul de Vence, and the Fragonard perfume factory in Eze. The tour company was Azur Tours and our English-speaking driver's name was Didier. He was excellent, very friendly, and accommodating. In fact, when my wife couldn't find the particular fragrance of Fragonard bath lotion during our visit to their factory in Eze, Didier volunteered to stop by their other factory in Grasse near his home and see if they had it there. He then met us in Nice a few days later and presented my wife with her bath gel.
Cannes was Ok since they were having the film festival during our stay; however, the medieval village of St. Paul de Vence was unbelievably beautiful and worth the trip. It is a small, ancient, walled town on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean, exactly what you might expect to see if you visited there 1000 years ago. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at the Cafe St. Paul de Vence, which is part of the Hotel St. Paul de Vence. Expensive, but wonderful.
Finally, for the ladies, you definitely need to visit the Fragonard perfume factory in Eze. My wife found that to be one of her most enjoyable shopping experiences as she bought a number of different perfumes there.
In conclusion, we will always treasure our stay at La Perouse and the wonderful treatment we received in NIce from the hotel staff, tour guide, and the wonderful people of Nice!

"A perfect place"
Stayed at La Perouse for five nights and it was absolutely perfect. If you plan to stay make sure you book a room with a balcony and sea view. From your window you will be able to see across the bay of Nice, to Antibes and beyond. Breathtaking and wonderful. Just off the sea front. Fantastic.
The hotel itself is very well kept. The staff are friendly and helpful and nothing appears too much trouble. We only had one meal other than breakfast at La Perouse but it was good value for money.
There is a nice sized pool, which is heated. There is also a sauna, jaccuzzi and small gym room too as well as rooftop terrace.
The hotel's location is perfect just yards from the old quarter of Nice with lots of restaurants and bars. Around the corner is the harbour which is also lined with some restaurants too. There is also an antique sellers area just a few minutes walk away with some really impressive shops - great if you have some money to burn.
The Perouse is not a hotel for families with young children I would say, but then Nice is not really a destination for younger families either I would say. But for a perfect location in Nice it won't come much better than this.

"La Perouse is a dream"
Four of us stayed at La Perouse for 3 days. Everything about it was wonderful. We booked the seaview rooms with balconies. The view was incredible!
The employees of the hotel, especially Alexis and Jamel, were exceedingly friendly and helpful. We were welcomed warmly, and our car and luggage were dealt with quickly and efficiently.
Our rooms were large and well-appointed - the toiletries were by Fragonard, and smelled divine.
I would recommend this hotel very highly.

"Through the looking glass........"
Enter the street level Reception of this hotel from the hustle, bustle and sheer exuberance of Promenade des Anglais, be transported 6 floors in a lift and your world will have changed into one of complete peace and tranquillity. At this level all street sounds have as if by magic disappeared and you have a charming indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar oozing ambiance serving good food. Just off the retaurant is the swimming pool area.
Our comfortable room complete with large well furnished secluded terrace was on the 5th floor and provided spectacular uninterupted views of the whole Bay of Anges. On the 6th floor above is a huge terrace complete with exercise equipment, hot-tub and sauna and of course magnificent views.
The hotel's position is perfect - in one direction a few steps into the Old Town with its 24 hour buzz, in another direction a short stroll to the picturesque Port area and immediately in front access to the beach with its excellent facilities and restaurants.
The staff were extremely friendly and helped us throughout our 8 night stay arranging several trips as well as restaurant bookings etc.
A truly remarkable hotel and one that we will be revisiting.

"Delightful Respite"
Spent two excellent nights and then returned for one night before our flight back home. We were upgraded the first two nights to a lovely room with a large terrace. The last night we were in a courtyard room that was fine but a bit small if you were to stay more than a night or two.
The location is great the quiet is very welcome from the excitement (and cars/motorbikes) of Nice. The employees could not have been more accommodating from recommendations for a tabac to dinner reservations. I would love to return.
