"Great value in downtown Vancouver"
We stayed at the Landis for a week while my husband was attending a conference in Vancouver. It cost a little more than the Sheraton Wall Centre's *conference* rate, but when you figure in the free internet at the Landis, it worked out to be the same price -- and we got two bedrooms, 1 bath, a full kitchen, big living room, and a full dining room! This was great as we were traveling with our 18-month-old son who does not do well sleeping in the same room as us -- with the added bonus of not having to spend evenings holed up in the bathroom after he went to sleep, like we've done in single-room hotels! It's a little downtrodden (it's not an elegant 4-star hotel!) but I thought it was reasonable -- clean, fresh linens every day, and although the suite wasn't picked up all the time, I really didn't expect the maidservice to organize my son's toys that were strewn all over the place. The pool is cold but the jacuzzi is warm ;) and there's a good-sized gym.
The Landis is in a great location -- 3-minute walk from the Wall Centre, a short walk to Davie Village (lots of restaurants, grocery stores, etc.) and a longer walk to Robson St., Gastown, the ferry to Granville island. They also have a shuttle which took us to the Aquarium (we got a taxi back for about $10) and to the library.
Although the breakfast was all carbs (bagels, toast, muffins, pastries, etc.) everything was surprisingly good -- no bulk-bought plastic shrink-wrapped tasteless things! Everyone on the staff was *very* friendly; they made a point of talking to my son, opening doors for us, etc. The front desk manager let us check out a few hours late so my son could get in a nap before going to the airport, he gave us tips on where to go in the city, and was always smiling and courteous.
I highly recommend the Landis. To be honest, I'm a bit bowled over that they charge the rates they do; they're on par with other downtown hotels, but have 5x the space. This is a great place to stay if you're traveling with kids or in a big party, and if you want to save $$ by doing your own cooking.
