"Akas hotel charming we love it!"
This is the second time we have stayed at the Akas Hotel. It is lovely, not posh just great for us and the kids. We had two adjacent rooms in the hotel itself (and if you ask them at the helpful reception they can move you from a car park view to a much better view of the frozen lake and snow covered forest!)There is a very good chance of seeing the Northern Lights which we did twice this week and once the last time we stayed. The hotel is very warm and there is a decent (usually very quiet) swimming pool with water jets and saunas. The buffet dinner and breakfasts are very good with a wide variety of choice and the children loved it. There is usually a dance or two at the weekends and the locals love to dance, its nice to watch them! Yllas is a quiet resort miles from anywhere. The snow is fantastic the skiing is good (esp cross country) but dont expect big slopes. It was very cold this January (minus 33) but we enjoyed it even so. It is not crowded and the ski instructors are very friendly and speak excellent English. There is not much in the village except a bar and a couple of restaurants but you can book many snow activities like snowmobiling, husky sledge driving and reindeer sleigh rides. Also it is possible to visit the Ice Hotel in Sweden (3 hours drive). Overall a great winter activity place for anyone but especially kids - they loved it! We travelled with Inghams.

"Meeting Santa was Wonderful on Christmas Day"
My Mummy and Daddy took me to Lapland when I was 18 months and it was wonderful. I also met up with some cousins who had been there three times. I was too little to join the Kids Club but all the friends I made there had a great time. I was able to go on excursions - Seeing Reindeer and the Santaland day out. The Reindeer were lovely and I had a great laugh on the sleigh ride with Huva, Mummy loved her drinks at the ice bar in Santaland. I just loved seeing Santa who was really nice to me and gave me ANOTHER present. I was lucky to see him again at the hotel on Christmas day. All the children sang songs for him and everybody had their photos taken. He brought his wife and son to play with us children. The staff were very kind to me, but I think I heard people grumbling about the drinks being very expensive - Scandanavia is dear for drinks- so I have been told. The village is small, we stayed on the free shuttle and went all the way around the area and were shown a reindeer farm. We bought a sledge so that I could get around, the plastic on your buggy will probably freeze, and sledging is great anyway. Remember to put your names on the sledge - if you leave it outside your room, it wil be borrowed indefinitley. The Supermarket and shops were wellstocked and everybody was nice to me. I loved the food, even though they had a children's menu and don't eat meat - I ate as much fish and other delicacies as I could stuff. WARNING - if you really like a turkey dinner, don't come to Lapland for Christmas. A lot of people complained about the Lappish Christmas dinner not having Turkey and sprouts. Some adults can be silly - they don't have Turkeys in Lapland they eat cold fish and ham and I enjoyed the smoked fish. The swimming pool is great. The bedroom was ok, I think Mum said the word spartan, very clean and warm, and had a great selection of TV. We had bought our own drinks, the Bigs had a champagne breakfast on Christmas day, whilst I had to make do with OJ. I was too little to ski, but they have a great creche on the slopes. The Bigs didn't ski much as not all the slopes were open and it was a bit boring after half an hour. All my friends who were learning had a great time and did really well in the four days they were there. I'd like to go again when I am an older and can do more things. We went with Inghams who were lovely and would go with them again.
