The Home Of Kings, Vsited By Catherina De Medici And Said To Be The Burial Place Of Leanardo da Vinci...
Le Choiseul Hotel is made up of three houses dating from the 15th and 18th centuries.
The Maison de l'Ermite: François de Paule, a Calabrian hermit came to Amboise at the request of Louis XI and founded the congregation of the Minimes in the 15th century. The present house is built on the foundations of the old convent.
The Maison du Duc was given by Louis XV to Etienne François Duc de Choiseul, the Minister of Finance and the Army before he, having become rich and important, built a "little Versailles": the Château de Chanteloup, a short distance away. |

"good restaurant"
We had taken the lunch in the restaurant 36 of hotel, but not stayed in the hotel. The lunch is DELICIOUSE, and not expansive!! Imagine that you are in a top notch French restaurant, the food was ambrosia...the service was impeccable, and you don't have surprise when you pay the bill.
Just 5 minutes walk to chateau d'amboise, lovely place to and we will return! T

"big numbers"
A great location, suberb bathroom and views.
Staff and Restaurant excellent.
Road noise was a little loud and pool shut down early which was not as advertised.
Numbers did not add up they advertised (a 4Star rating)
The bathroom, bed and restaurant were worth a 4.
The decor was nice but carpet bordering on dingy.making the room ambiance feeling like a 3.Ice buckets mini, making it difficult to cool down a bottle of wine.

"Was it a Dream?"
We took a day trip to the Loire Valley from Paris on our honeymoon in September. Despite our friends' advising us to be frugal and stay at a small B&B, we went with our instinct and checked into Le Choisel ~~ just a little down the road from the castle in Amboise. We arrived very late in the evening and hoped for the best. Our instincts were right! We enjoyed a little scotch from the mini bar, wonderful baths in the large tub, comfy robes, and a wonderful nights sleep. The bed was quite comfortable unlike some of the rock hards beds we experienced in Italy. We had a garden view room, and just from the bed our view was of a cliff wall across the way covered in trees, birds flying about, blue sky above and a cool valley breeze. It was so serene, we slept in about 3 hours!
I should note that this is Old World charm, thus the room was covered, covered in the same flowery print. The walls, bedspread, headboard, curtains, you name it. Not exactly everyone's taste, but the room was otherwise so comfortable, we didn't care.
When we finally went to eat, it was lunchtime, so we enjoyed a traditional French dejeuner in the hotel restaurant, followed by a dessert of cheese, dried apricots and a lovely white wine. There was a large Parisien group also having lunch and we were very happy when they stepped outside for their cigarettes.
We were having such a good time, we stopped to purchase a lovely piece of jewelry from their eclectic jewelry display window and take pictures in the garden. Le Choisel is one of those places where you say ~~ THIS is why we went on vacation!
