Great rooms, good value for money
We were lucky to get a room in the Meridien, having originally booked our stay at The Howard Johnson Diplomat in Sliema, a hotel was meant to be a 4 star, and was more like a 1 star (indeed this seems to be a common feature in Matla, all the 4 star hotels we saw were dire, whilst the 5 stars were pretty much what they advertise). After we changed to Le Meridien, we were not disappointed. At least the quality of the room, cleanliness and service we received was close to what we expect for 5 star. Everything worked fine, and the staff were very courteous and helpful. There was a strange problem on our last evening, when we noticed a gurgling sound from the bath plughole, which I took to be a blocked pipe somewhere. After a quick call to reception, this was fixed expeditiously whilst we were out having dinner. As for the hotel restaurant and bar, it didn't seem too inviting, and a bit over-priced. However, we never usually eat in, but prefer to go out visiting different parts of the island, thereby sampling the local restaurants - part of the joy of traveling (and are usually much cheaper). With regards to the furniture, the beds were comfortable enough for my bad back, although it was confusing that we had quite thick quilts in the middle of summer! Easily remedied though by getting a thinner cover. The only downside I can think of was the roof swimming pool, which is not quite as big and deep as I would have liked for a good swim, and some people had a tendency to go into it without washing off their sun tan lotion first, so the water got a bit dirty by late afternoon - I think this was not just the guests being lazy, but that the shower water was exceptionally cold! In all, one of the best hotels on Malta, in one of the best locations. Probably on a level footing with Radison and Hilton, from what we've seen of those hotels... and why give any more money to Paris Hilton?

"Great 2 week visit at Christmas and New Years"
This is a really nice place, especially for romantics or newly weds. Got an incredible rate from my travel agent (booked it in August) for 30 malta lire a night, about $90 bucks us! (No package) We did not have a bay view, but the back of the hotel there is kind of a cool parking lot, topped with stone walls, medievel tower, farm land, cactus.....even a mule! for the savings, the view was just fine. My Siberian girfriend and I could lay in our King size bed and listen to church bells. All the rooms have outdoor patios which are nice.(Bring wine, cheese, and bread back to your room!) The room came with a hot tub too! Staff were very helpful and friendly. Eating at the resort can get pretty expensive, so we stuck to trying out local joints. Oh my, what delights to eat! Try breakfast or lunch at the Bocconcino Caffee Trattoria less than 2 blocks left of the hotel. White coffee and a full english breakfast for me!!!

"A first class hotel"
We got a great internet deal at the last minute including flight from the UK. The room was excellent, the breakfast buffet one of the best I have seen. Helpful, professional staff. A near-perfect stay which I would happily recommend.

"Le Meridien, a true star."
My girlfriend and I stayed at Le Meridien in St Julian’s for a week from the 16th of March 2007 till the 23rd of March 2007. The first impression was important and we were very impressed with the hotel structure and location straight away. We had to wait for a bit at the reception seeing as it was a busy Friday afternoon but the lady was well kind and very friendly, they even gave us a drink on the house for waiting and were extremely friendly to us. We booked our holiday through expedia and decided to go for a classic room, which means we got the apartment view and not the fantastic sea view so I’d suggest booking that instead if you have the money. The view we had was still fine and the room was fantastic. You have a mini bar (not free obviously and you have to pay around 6 Euros a day if you want to put your own stuff in it), a TV (some pay channels if you want including movie channels and even porn channels haha) as well as many other free ones mostly German/Italian. There is a hair dryer, safe and an Iron board. The bed is huge and very comfy. You also get a nice chair to relax on as well as a balcony to sit outside on a nice day. The bathroom was great minus the bad shower fitted door (unless it’s meant to be that way) but the bath tub is big and very nice. Overall we LOVED the room and wouldn’t mind staying in it again. The hotel itself had nice facilities that included a fantastic pool, spa and gym facilities. We used them every single day on our one week stay and miss it badly. The pool is very relaxing and very nicely built to give you an epic feel especially with the pillars in each corner and the very relaxing instrumental music. The gym has a lot of things to use and was constantly busy. The sauna was also a great addition and we enjoyed using it a lot. We didn’t do any treatments but they had a lot of different ones if you are interested and the rooms looked good. There is also a dance room where you can do classes. The staff were very friendly too, especially a guy called Lloyd who even offered my girlfriend his personal MP3 player when she wanted to dance and there were no classes. He also always gave tips in the gym to people and helped them with exercises. The breakfast isn’t as bad as many have said, it costs around 17 MLT which is around 40 Euros. A breakfast buffet that included anything you would expect from one. There is a chef that makes fresh eggs, omelets etc… for you as well. It’s free obviously if you booked it with your hotel service. The villa, which is a restaurant right next to the exit of the hotel and part of the hotel is a brilliant classy and very tasty place. We had our best meal of the whole week there and the staff were extremely nice to us. The meat was cooked to perfection, 4 pieces of meat and all equally as good. There is also a very relaxing Lounge bar that is open till 1 am, they serve lovely drinks and snacks and the seating is very comfortable with very relaxing lounge music from around the world. One facility that we couldn’t use was the roof top pool and restaurant because it was still a bit cold when we went BUT the place looks breathtaking specialling with the view of the sea and the town. It’s definitely worth staying at the hotel around summer time to enjoy it fully. I’d definitely rate this a 5 star hotel and I’m sure with years to come they can just improve more and more. Also, there are plenty of restaurants and shops to check out near the hotel for night snacks or just a day out and the bus stop is just 10 seconds outside the hotel so you can grab yourself a bus that goes all the way to Valletta or even to the Ferry to go to Gozo. The staff are friendly and will help you with info If you need it, don’t be shy to ask.

"Great hotel"
We stayed in this hotel over Easter and whilst there were some hitches, due the building works still being completed, overall we had a great stay. Our first room was covered with builders dust but we were immediately upgraded to a junior suite - a perfect way to handle a complaint. The rooms and bathrooms are great - as you'd expect froma Meridien. Location is perfect for the local restaurants. Breakfast was also very good, helped along by the local sparkling wine. The pool is on the roof and can be a little windy. Overall, a very good hotel.

"Good Hotel"
Location is good. Bus stops in both directions are vey close. Some bars and restaurants are close by with many within 15 minutes. Rooms are a fair size, and are pleasantly decorated. The beds are comfortable but mainly seem to be twin rather than double. The bathrooms are good with a corner bath and separate powerful shower and the wc is closeted off from this. Got a double room with breakfasts for 43 UK from alpha rooms and found this to be good value. Would have thought that anything near the rack rate was poor value. Standard rooms do overlook the car park at the back of the hotel. We were on the 7th floor so had more of a view of the green hill and its houses so that was OK. Breakfast was a buffet of cooked with an egg bar, fruit, cereals, pastries, breads, cold meats and cheses. All ok except the bacon and scrambled eggs, which were very thinly sliced containing rinds and uncrisped fat, and the eggs were overcooked (steamed possibly) with water separating from them. Hairdressers within the hotel are good and well priced.

Honeymoon Bliss
We stayed at the Le Meridien-St. Julians for our honeymoon in May, and we couldn’t have chosen a better location. The front desk staff provided us with OUTSTANDING service – Italo went above and beyond the call of duty for us on several occasions. And Roberto, the maitre d' in the Scirocco Restaurant, greeted us each morning with a smile, a wonderful sense of humor, and a table with an amazing view of Balluta Bay. Visiting the spa was like stepping into a Thai resort, and we loved the peacefulness of it. We chose the deluxe ocean view room, and seeing the Mediterranean every day from our balcony was well worth it. The convenient bus stop outside of the hotel made day trips to Mdina, Valetta, and Mellieha Bay a breeze. The lounge on the roof was still under construction when we visited and a few other parts of the hotel looked a bit unfinished, but our room and the service were so perfect, we didn’t care. It was the best hotel experience of our lives, and we are planning to return to Le Meridien-St. Julians for one of our anniversary celebrations in the future. Highly recommended – WONDERFUL service!

"It was just perfect"
Well first of all, it's true that the hotel was not finished and some things were not working the way they should, but i really have to say that all in all i am very happy and my partner as well, because the stuff was amazing specially at the front desk and whenever we needed help they would have done everything very professinally, and i really felt special. 2. The food was very good as well and the stuff as well. 3. I can't much say about the facilities of the hotel because it wasn't operational yet, but they took good care of us and sent us to the westin and they arranged everything, Keep it up And for sure in future this hotel is going to be the best hotel ever And i had a great stay
