This part of the country plays a central role in many of the Sagas. However, Reykjavík remained a tiny village from the time of settlement until mid 18th century, with only around 5000 inhabitants in year 1900. It has been said that time has another dimension in Reykjavík. This small but modern capital has earned its place as a vital part of the Iceland experience, next to the midnight sun and the otherworldly landscapes. The city is both vibrant in cultural life and boasts short distances to natural surroundings. This makes it an ideal place to visit for its own merits.

"We thought it was Grrrreeeeattttt !"
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and thought it was great value for money. Before we even got there we had emailed and asked about trips - the staff there were extremely helpful and informative (Thank You to Shaun !). Our room was excellent - very quiet and comfortable. The breakfast was good, help yourself to whatever you like - ham, cheese, jams. cereal, fruit etc. Tea and coffee are available 24 hours. We had a great time - the hotel is great and we'd love to go back. We would recommend anyone going there to eat out at Siggi Hall (just 3 minutes walk away). The food there trumped anything we've ever had in the UK.

"Great time"
Stayed here with the Icelandair deal earlier this year. brilliant location , lovely breakfast buffet and clean room. very nice although the icelandic people do not really have much of a sense of humour so i can see how the staff may rub people up the wrong way

"Fantastic Location, stunning views, friendly staff"
What a fantastic place Iceland is and you cannot do better than stay at this hotel. It is centrally situated close to the shopping area, the stunning Hallgrimskirkja church and only a short walk from the sea. All trips can be booked from reception and everything runs so smoothly with pick up from the hotel by minibus. We had a double room overlooking the church and the longest it took to walk to a site of interest was 35 minutes, to the Perlan. This restaurant was a bit OTT with its food and its prices but the experience of a rotating restaurant was magical. The hotel staff are friendly and you may wait a while for a table for breakfast but we thought it was a great value hotel, clean, very warm and with hot drinks on demand. What more could you want? I will definitely return.

50th Birthday trip
A friend and I went to Iceland to celebrate our 50th birthdays - mine actually fell on the Sunday whilst we were there. The hotel was super. The location was excellent, staff extremely friendlyand helpful. No need to run around booking trips etc. the hotel will do it for you. The room, whilst not huge, was big enough for us both - I mean, who spends any length of time in a hotel bedroom on a city break? The bathroom was fine with plenty of hot water and clean towels. Beds were comfy, with quilts and the bed linen was clean. I would definitely stay here again as it's in a great location and close to everything..

Fantastic, brillian, excellent
Wow, what a fantastic place. My boyfriend took me to Reykjavik, Iceland for my 30th birthday, which was amazing especially when he proposed outside the church opposite the hotel. Iceland is brilliant and the hotel Leifur Eiriksson was brilliant. The staff are so, so friendly and helpfull. I e-mailed them with loads of questions before we went and they promptly replied with top information. When we arrived they made us feel so welcome and we soon became good friends. The hotel is lovely, in the best spot in Reyjavik, perfect. It is just a short walk down the road from the town centre but not too close to be disturbed. The food in the hotel was lovely and you can help yourself to tea, coffee and orange 24 hours a day. I cannot wait to return and i would recommend this hotel to anyone. If you go i recommend visiting the blue lagoon, the golden circle super jeep tour including the glacier, the northern lights and the ice bar. These are my faviorite spots, not forgetting my most faviorite, the fabulous church opposite the hotel.

"Small and Friendly"
Leifur Eiriksson was a great place to stay, just opposite the Hallgrimskirkje, which makes an excellent landmark to find the hotel on first arriving in Reykjavik - just look for the spire! The breakfast was basic, but filling, consisting of bread you could toast yourself if you wanted, cereals, jam and drinks. The staff were very helpful. On asking about restaurants in Reykjavik I was directed to a small fish restaurant with an excellent menu and not overpriced. The room was excellent and the hotel, like all buildings in Iceland, was warm.
