Hotel Information
A hotel in Venice in a beautiful building with an ancient history...
The fifteenth century Liassidi Palace Hotel building is an elegant example of Venetian gothic architecture which was built on the foundations of a previous medieval structure. Its facade is dominated by a splendid mullioned window with six lights framed in decorations and inserted between two couples of windows. The balconies of the first floor have some overturned columns and for this reason this building is also known as The Zorzi Building with the crooked columns.
The name Liassìdi is that of the Cypriot family who owned the building up until the beginning of the 1900's. Another connection links the history of this building to the island of Cyprus: in 1436, it was purchased by the Zorzi – Corner (Cornaro) Family who, from the beginning of the 1500's, played a primary role in the economic and political life of the Republic of Venice, numbering, among their members, the famous Caterina Cornaro who was the queen of Cyprus. Thanks to the Zorzi-Corner Family the building became very famous, arousing the admiration of the famous architect Jacopo Sansovino (1486 -1570).
The recent restoration work has given the building back its ancient splendour, while equipping it with the most modern technology as regards safety and comfort.
The entrance from Calle della Madonna leads into the courtyard, a small area that is filled with jasmine and lemon plants and that is overlooked by the lobby of the hotel, a combination of Italian design and the elegance of an ancient Venetian home. The heart of this exclusive hotel in Venice is the large banquet hall on the piano nobile.
Its high ceilings, decorated with visible beams and beautiful Murano glass lamps, elegant furniture and the splendid mullioned window with six lights overlooking the canal, make it an exclusive and elegant setting. On the ground floor, the Hotel has its own water access directly from the San Lorenzo Canal.
Walking through these streets you might come across a group of children playing in the shadow of a bell tower, or indeed women chatting from the window as they hang out their washing on the suspended wires or men talking about football and politics in a typical “bàcaro” (small bar).
Overlooking the San Lorenzo Canal, The Liassidi Palace is among the few hotels in Venice that is situated just a few metres from The Church of St. George of the Greeks with its Byzantine masterpieces and works of art from the School of San Nicolò with its splendid collection of icons.
In just a few minutes, guests of this exclusive Venetian hotel can admire the famous pictorial cycle of Vittore Carpaccio at the School of San Giorgio degli Schiavoni, discover the treasures of the Church of San Zaccaria or those of San Giovanni in Bragora, among the most ancient churches of the city.
Here, in a refined atmosphere, a rich buffet of sweet and savoury delights will await them.
* Two spacious areas preserved from the palazzo's earlier days occupy two floors. On the second floor, a grand hall provides a traditional Venetian ambience, created by a combination of the original 15th-century beamed ceiling, a 19th-century terrazzo floor, 18th-century Murano glass chandeliers, gilded chairs with scarlet-plush upholstery, Oriental rugs, richly colored drapes, and tall leaded-glass windows overlooking San Lorenzo/Dei Greci Canal.
* On the fourth floor, a series of spacious salons contain blond-oak floors, Oriental rugs, feathery potted plants, gilt tables and chairs with plush-fabric seating, large copies of details from famous Venetian paintings, and more tall windows overlooking the canal.
- The soft and elegant lines of this furniture blends into the contemporary forms of the glazed metal frames and the brass and glass tables.
