This luxury, traditionally English hotel has spectacular views over Marlow weir and offers leisurely boat rides on the river in summer along with lunches on the lawn or terrace. In winter the lounge with its open log fires or the 400 year-old Bar serve as cosy drinking dens.

The Macdonald Compleat Angler is well known for its high quality food and service with its award winning restaurant The Riverside and the less formal Waltons Bistro. "A wonderful hotel in an unbeatable location"
We stayed here for a friends wedding in May. The staff were friendly, attentive and professional in all area's. The wedding itself was fantastically managed, the food was outstanding (you would never tell it had been mass catered) and every room we utilised was spotless and tastefully furnished. Not a hint of shabbiness anywhere! Our bedroom was beautifully decorated, again spotlessly clean and had a lovely view of Marlow Bridge, Church and River Thames. Our breakfast the next day was overlooking the river and of an exceptional standard. Again the staff were faultless. This is a high quality hotel, providing excellent service with the balance right between friendliness and distance without feeling stuffy. I would recommend a stay here, or even Pimms on the lawn or a meal. It's restaurant is commended with good reason. My one negative comment..... the drinks here are astronomically priced!! Ah well, you can't have everything!

I took my wife to the Compleat Angler for a romantic night away and we were not disappointed. The hotel is situated in a lovely location right on the river. We were shown to our room which was spacious and well presented. We liked the old-world feel of the hotel which has none of the pretentiousness of some of the newer, expensive London hotels. The staff throughout our stay were friendly, helpful and a credit to the hotel. We ate dinner in the Riverside restaurant and the food was superb, certainly comparable with top restaurants in London (again the restaurant staff were excellent). We spent the next day wandering 'round Marlow which has a nice 'village' feel and there are lots of shops and bars where you can while away a few hours. As we live in London we wanted to get away from the city but didn't want to travel too far. We really enjoyed our trip to the Compleat Angler and we're already looking forward to our next visit.

"Fantastic romantic getaway!"
My hubby and I booked a night at the Compleat Angler in Marlow to celebrate our 16th anniversary. It is a lovely old hotel in a beautiful location in Marlow on the banks of the Thames. The receptionist was delightful, the bell boy polite and helpful and he showed us the restaurant where we would be eating dinner and breakfast. Our room was very pretty with a marvellous view over the river and the beautiful chain bridge leading into Marlow village. A couple of minor gripes were, that there was a crack in one of the tiny window panes in the bedroom and the sealant round the bath looked awful in one place. Shortly after we had settled in, there was a knock on the door and we were presented with complimentary glasses of champagne which was absolutely lovely. We went for a mooch around the pretty town of Marlow, before heading back to get ready for dinner. We got dressed up, and went down for a drink in the bar. The bar staff were extremely attentive and professional and we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink while we perused the menu. The restaurant manager Howard Davis was amazing, he was so good at his job, putting us totally at ease, giving us as much time as we needed without being intrusive or pushy and he made our celebration meal a wonderful experience. The riverside restaurant was fantastic. The waiting staff were so well trained, polite and efficient, they were a pleasure to watch. The food was out of this world, extremely rich, but beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Just before the dessert course, we had another lovely surprise when we were presented with a table firework and more complimentary champers! A magical end to a truly memorable day. Breakfast was superb the following morning, the waiting staff were again faultless. My only other personal gripe was the smoking in the bars that permeated throughout the entire ground floor of the hotel. Not pleasant! A wonderful day of indulgence in a fabulous hotel. I'm hoping we will go back in the near future.
