Macdonald Swan Hotel is situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park, which is an excellent base to explore the local area. The Swan sits on the northern outskirts of the village of Grasmere, approximately halfway between Windermere and Keswick.

"Great hotel for the Lake District"
We stopped by chance for one night passing through the Lake District, and were extremly pleased with this hotel. We booked in on their special offer of dinner,bed & breakfast. From entering we found all the staff friendly and courteous, The room was not large but clean & comfortable. The bathroom was of a good standard. The hospitality tray was excellent and included as well as the normal items, a bottle of sparkling water, still water and a half decanter of sherry. The dinner menu was limited but contained an interesting variety of dishes and the quality could not be faulted. The only comment would make that service was a little too attentive. Breakfast consisted of just about everything possible for any taste, including a wide range of fruits, cheeses, cold meats and cereals as well as the usual "full Enlish". I would heartily reccomend this hotel for a base to see some of the most beautiful landscape in England.
