The art nouveau Brasserie and Bar serve real French cooking and fabulous wines in a traditional Brasserie buzz. "Fantastic hotel"
My brother's wedding reception was held at the Malmaison - and from the moment we arrived to a rolled out red carpet and champagne and whisky we knew we were going to be in for a treat! We stayed room 118 - a fantastic cornor junior suite looking over the front of the hotel and the water. The four poster bed was enormous and one of the comfiest beds I have ever slept in. The selection of goodies in the bathroom (with a note to say help yourself!) iwas a nice suprise. They included the usual shower gel and shampoo but in full size bottles as well as foot lotion, eye mask, eye gel, breath freshener and body lotion! The shower was amazing too - showerhead was the size of a small pizza with fantastic water pressure - just what you need the morning after your brother's wedding! We preordered breakfast in bed , a bit annoyed that it was only a continental instead of full Scottish cooked breakfast - but we were not dissapointed when itt arrived!! It came in a huge wicker picnic hamper with cereal, fresh tropical fruit salad, freshly squeezed orange juice, croisant, pain au chocolate, yogurt wth fruit compote and real coffee. What a treat! Even though it was included in our room rate it is definately worth the £12 it normally costs - we were still full at lunchtime and didn't eat till dinner! The hotel is wonderfully located - very close to the Leith Terminal Shopping Centre with restaurants, bars and cinema aswell as all the usual shops. Edinburgh really is only a short taxi drive away. Yes, it was a bit expensive, but well worth it if you are visiting for a special occasion or are looking for a wonderful location for your wedding.

"Awesome Hotel!"
We stayed at the Malmaison in Sept 05 and have meant to put our review on for a while. This room was magnificent! Spacious and ultra-modern with a big bed and windows that you could swing open to let in the fresh Scottish air. The location was within walking distance of many restaurants, pubs and shops and a short cab ride to Edinburgh Castle. There's a walkway outside, as you'll see from the picture, that makes for a quaint evening stroll down the canal.

"Faultless"
Having lived in Edinburgh in the past, I always love the Leith Shore for it's unrivalled easy going bars and restaurants. I found myself with a dilemma living in Newcastle Upon Tyne, the best and most convenient direct flight to New York was from Edinburgh for my annual 2007 trip to the USA. This time taking in New York for the first time before visiting friends in New Orleans again for 3 weeks. The Hilton at the airport wanted £229 for 1 night and 21 days car parking so I thought better of it and plummed for the Holiday Inn Express on the shore until my partner asked me to do a price search on the MalMaison. I was shocked to get a room for £109. This was £20 more than the HI Express and the trappings don't compare so I booked it immediately and booked my airport parking separate at £52. Who needs to be tied to the Hilton at the airport anyway. The Mal was not a disappointment. Not the best appointment room (303) but it was only a convenience stay than a holiday. Lovely bathroom, great overly generous toiletries in the room and fantastic location. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and if I find myself flying to the USA from Edinburgh again, this will be my very first selection. it's quiet, away from the bustle of the Royal Mile, has parking, generously spaced rooms and totally free broadband internet access.

"Lovely, Affordable, Clean, and Kind"
Reviews I'd read about the Malmaison were mixed and made me a little nervous. I was looking for convenience, affordability and a little comfort/style if possible. Found all of this and more in the Malmaison. Don't mean to gush but it was a really nice experience. Everyone was very kind and helpful, especially when I had difficulty with an emergency credit card. It was convenient to public transportation into Edinburgh. My friend and I used Bon Appetite's May 2004 "Taste of Scotland" issue to choose restuarants and three of their recommended eateries were within a block of the hotel. The only drawback is its distance to the City (Royal Mile, Princes Street, New/Old Town). It's approximately a 2 pound/20 minute bus ride or a 10 pound/10 minute cab ride. My friend and I wanted to eat at The Witchery on the Royal Mile but were tired and couldn't rally to get dressed and cab over so we ended up at a local Italian restaurant (don't go THERE!! It was the worst meal we had!! Giuliani's, I believe was the name!). Anyway, we enjoyed our room, it's cleanliness, the amenities, deep bathtubs, large towels, room service and overall vibe. Highly recommend.

"Away from the madness!"
Visting the Fringe for a fix of comedy, we stayed over in Leith. This is the port district of Edinburgh and has its advantages: views over the harbour, quiter than town, its own neighbourhood atmosphere but its only disadvantage is if you want to stay in the city centre (about 15min cab ride). The bar has a nice feel and the terrace outside is great for supping champagne on a summers days (doesn't happen too often up here in Scotland!). The restaurant also has a chic feel but could have done with a better clean before serving breakfast on Sunday morning. The rooms are contemporary and the king size bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean with takeaway toiletries. Our complaint was the usual against a number of hotels - noise. The soundproofing to outside was pretty good but the doors slamming at 4am (after a wedding bash) could be sorted out.

"Quality and charm"
My wife and I spent our honeymoon here. The staff were wonderful and upgraded us to a suite. All the rooms have their own style. Ours was very contemporary while our neighbours was Old French. The suite was split level and contained a comfortable bed, a snazzy en suite and a comfortable sitting room. All the electronics are high quality and you may hire dvds from reception. Taxis to the centre are cheap, you can walk in fifteen minutes or take one of the endless stream of buses. The bar is great, very fashionable and the surrounding area boasts many restaurants. The location is on the docks in a grand old building. Quality and charm sum it up.

"Stylish, comfortable hotel, with a very friendly staff"
Spent the weekend of 6/7 th Aug here. We were upgraded to a fourposter room. The hotel was as comfortably furnished as I remembered it - our room was cream/black/brown, with dark green subdued tartan accents - quite lovely. Every gadget that would be expected in this standard of hotel was present in the room. The staff were all very friendly and the hotel was ideally situated near several good bars and restaurants in Leith, but only a short taxi journey to Princes Street etc. Only slight niggle was the length of time it took us to be spotted by a waiter in the bar on Saturday afternoon - but it was busy, so I will let them off on this occasion. I would definately use the hotel again.
