Reasonable choice for low budget
Although the districts around Omonia square do not produce an impression of well-being, the hotel is quite tolerable. The room we had was small (one must move the bed to be able to open the fridge) but cozy, clean and quiet at night. Bathroom modest, but acceptable. Frugal meal for breakfast. Good connection to all the sights (metro or afoot). |

"Nice hotel"
The room was very clean and absolutely no problems with the room what-so-ever. Someone was smoking near by that stunk but so what. I booked online at 50 Euro a night and that's exactly what i paid. I had no run-around or problems. Breakfast was okay, bread, meats and cheses is what I stuck to. They had chocolate rice krispies but I didn't see milk. There was a plum pudding thing and a fruit salad bowl and what appeared to be a big bowl of whipped cream, but I didn't try any of those. They had OJ and Coffee.
The hotel isn't in the greatest area, but all of Athens seemed that way. Very close to Omonia station on the metro so tell the info desks at the airport that's where you want to go and they will tell you how to get there.
Very disappointed with the city itself. Very trashy. Not much to do there either. Two days is more than enough time to see Athens, especially in June when the days are about 13 hours long of daylight. There really isn't much.
There's a great cheap place to get Giro's just down the street to the left as you walk out the hotel. Very good and nice owners.
I would stay here again if I ever had a bizarre desire to go to Athens again.

"Trip to Athens"
I was really worried about staying at Marina Hotel in Athens, but due to my low budget I thought it would be ok. My concerns appeared to be valid when I got out of the Metro at Omonia Station and couldn't find the hotel. It is really hard to find but we found it thanks to some locals who didn’t know where it was but got us close. I was pleasantly surprised at hotel upon check-in. Everyone at the hotel was extremely friendly and the lobby was pretty nice. The rooms were standard European rooms with a balcony. I didn't have a tub (not a surprise) but overall the experience was enjoyable.
The breakfast was hard boiled eggs, meat, cheese, cereal, bread, jam, coffee and OJ. I ate it to save money and it wasn't the end of the world.
The location of the hotel is excellent because it is close to the Metro at Omonia Station and other shops. It is about 15 minutes (fast walking) to the Plaka and the Acropolis. However, like many others said, the area isn't ideal. The hotel is located next to dumpsters of trash and a lot of people are hanging around. I didn't feel scared at any point and no one bothered us (Us, meaning three American female 20 somethings). After 12am, the area becomes flooded with drug users and they were too high to bother us. I never took a cab once during my entire stay (3 days) nor did I feel it was needed (due to safety or distance).
Overall, Athens is a busy, polluted city. I enjoyed my stay and am glad of the experiences I had. You can do Athens in two days. We stayed there while we waited for a friend before heading out to the islands. We also returned to the Marina Hotel on our last day of vacation before heading to the airport. The second room we received was very nice (a triple) and had a wonderful bathroom.
I would definitely stay at Hotel Marina again without a doubt.

"Good choice for Athens"
Hotel Marina is a great choice for a short stay in Athens. It is very close to the Metro (Ominoa Station). The windows and doors are all double glazed which keeps the noise out. The rooms are adequate for 2 persons. I found the staff quite friendly and the ones I dealt with spoke perfect english. If I would return to Athens (which I won't because it is aweful), I would stay here again... Price was excellent.
