"Good Hotel - Great Location"
My parents, sister (23) and I enjoyed a three night stay at this hotel in February 2006. We had originally been booked to stay at a different hotel near Sagrada Familia. When we got there we were met by the receptionist who advised (in Spanish) that we were being moved to a different hotel. As we do not speak Spanish we are still unsure why we were being moved. We were bundled into a taxi and taken to the Hotel Medinaceli. Having had no idea what to expect we were pleasantly surprised by the hotel. The hotel is very clean and modern. The bedrooms are a good size and the bathrooms are very modern. The showers are great and there is a good range of complimentary toiletries. There is a fancy LCD television in the rooms as well, not that you would really want to stay in your room and watch TV. Our rooms overlooked the square which was a nice touch as it was very quaint. Was lovely to wake up in the morning and look out the large windows onto the square.
The hotel staff were pleasant and helpful. The only complaints I would offer are that breakfast was not included. We paid for breakfast in the hotel on the first morning and it was served in a downstairs dining room with very little atmosphere. We were the only people eating there. It was a buffet breakfast and we did not see a single member of staff. There were limited options available. We did not eat there again as it was quite expensive and not worth the money when there are so many great places nearby. Also, when we were there they were carrying out works in the reception area so you had to watch out for the cables and wires on the floor. However, I imagine this was only temporary.
All in all I was really happy with the hotel and the location was amazing, just a couple of minutes from the bottom of Las Ramblas so you did not have to worry about transport. Also, the tourist bus that goes round the City could be boarded only 5 minutes away.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Barcelona.

"Great Location"
Stayed here for five nights and had an overall very pleasant experience. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful - we hired bikes and they had no problem with them being stored in the hotel overnight.
Fantastic location - 20 mins walk to the beach, or 10 mins if biking. Placa Reial, Las Ramblas and the Gotic Quarter are just 5 to 10 mins away.
Breakfast was actually quite ok - good selection of hot and cold foods and drinks. Decent selection of fruit although the apples looked and felt a little wrinkly. Also, lovely creme caramels. Very pleasant waitress/breakfast person who started every day off with a nice smile and 'Hola'.
Room was large and spacious with an ok sized bathroom with a decent shower. Plentiful replenishments of complementary toiletries everday and room cleaned to a good standard.
Hotel belongs to the Gargollo (?) group and they have hotels all around Barcelona and other parts of Spain. From the look of the leaflets, some of the other hotels also looked very nice. As a previous review said, the safe was charged for, but this was only 2 euros a day.
Would probably stay in this hotel or another of their hotels next time I go to Barcelona.
