"Luxurious, very close to airport."
Call from the airport and they send a free shuttle to pick you up. The hotel is quite large. Rooms are very spacious. Bathroom was immaculate. Not cheap, but huge breakfast was included with the fee. If you have to stay near the airport, this is a wonderful place. (I was there in May, 2005.)

"Luxurious Airport Hotel"
I stayed here one night before heading back to the States - it was great! Beautiful bathroom, great amenities, a real queen bed instead of two twins put together, and very upscale and elegant decor. The free airport shuttle was very convenient. I loved it!

"Great Value"
Our large room had fantastic potential with cherry wood furniture and trim, pleasant lighting, and many features, but aesthetically it was spoiled since it was not well maintained (lots of nicks, scratches, wall markings, spots on carpet; a thorough vacuuming was sorely needed on the heavily patterned carpet.
The breakfast was wonderful with everything imaginable for 18 euros; if you are using the MAS card (see SolMelia website) for two-for-one breakfast, make sure you tell the dining room personnel when you give them your room number to avoid problems and insolence at checkout. Even though we had showed our card on check-in, this chain still can’t figure out a way to use the information to give the indicated benefits, in this case one free breakfast when one is paid for.
Airport pickup is convenient; there is no hotel courtesy phone at the airport, so call at a payphone or with a cell to make sure someone is out picking up—supposedly every ten minutes—and find out where to go. In the morning allow extra time if you want the free shuttle for the airport—you may have to wait through a couple shuttles—no reservations are accepted nor is any organization evident—everyone just stands around in groups and when the shuttle arrives it may already have other people in it from other nearby Melia/Tryp hotels; a taxi is available with one designated spot on property.
Disappointments: the hotel cafeteria restaurant was closed permanently and the free Internet access was “broken.” If you want to avoid high hotel dining room and bar prices, know that eating out in the area is possible. We particularly enjoyed Al Traste (3 blocks away—one block east [left] to the light and then two blocks north [right]) and ate there twice in a 5-hour period. It can be very smoky (no separate non-smoking section), but the place has good food with a reasonable Americanized menu. It was billed as a fun bar and grill and reminded us of Applebee’s or TGIFriday’s in the States.
We paid under 95 euros for our room including tax but not breakfast, which was two for one with the MAS card. Overall it was a very good value if you want to stay close to Barajas Airport.

"Top Notch for Business Travel"
Stayed overnight at the Melia Barajas before returning home from vacation. We found the room to be very nicely decorated and very clean. Compares well with a Marriott-class business hotel.
