"A comfortable and central base in Salamanca"
I have just come back from my second visit to Las Claras this year (the first one was in early March, when Salamanca was covered in snow and ice, but the hotel was beautifully warm). Down a quiet side street, but only a short walk from the glorious Plaza Mayor, it provides a central base from whch to explore this lovely city. I would be happy to return again. Although it is modern and part of a chain, and therefore not full of character, it does not seem soulless - probably mainly due to the very helpful and friendly staff. The rooms are a good size, light and bright and well maintained, and nothing seemed lacking to make the stay as comfortable as possible. We could even see the top of the cathedral from our room on the fourth floor. The prices (booked on-line) were very good value compared to similar quality accommodation in other European towns.

"Loved this hotel"
We stayed at this hotel 25th-27th Sept 2006 incl. (booking an extra night after a disastrous stay at Parador Puebla De Sanabria. Wished we had booked a longer stay. Service superb, rooms spotless; attention to detail great. Food superb. Handy for for the attractions of Salamanca. Which is a pleasant city to just wander around. If driving there is some parking outside the hotel but we preferred to park in the hotel car park which is accesible by a car lift. Bit daunting at first but we soon got used to it. Much better value than some of the hotels we have stayed at for the same price.

"delightful hotel in central salamanca"
We are just recovering from our return from Spain and have been looking at our photos - the Melia Las Claras was our favourite place to stay on this trip. (October 16-20,2006) The basic room is very spacious and the public spaces tastefully decorated. We ate dinner on our first night there - very high quality of food and excellent service. The quick walk (uphill!!!) into the old town took minutes so we returned easily to the hotel during the day for a break. There is a terrific wine bar-restaurant just a short way down the street which is handy for a tapas or taste of spanish wine. The hotel staff were all very helpful and could manage in English to assist us.We actually extended our stay by one night to take advantage of the comfort as well as all of the fine dining in Salamanca. Rates are very reasonable - our cheapest room but our nicest.

"Great Value in Salamanca"
Good hotels in Salamaca are expensive so we were thrilled to get the 4 star Melia Boutique Las Claras through Expedia for only 70 euros a night, August 5th - 8th, 2005. It is a small, very new hotel conveniently located within easy walking distance of all the main attractions. I wouldn't decribe it as "boutique" exactly as it is too modern and the rooms are a little corporate in their decor. However, the accommodations are spacious and well appointed. The bathroom was huge, with a separate toilet and bidet room and was attractively tiled from floor to ceiling in terracota coloured marble. It contained luxury toiletries, plush terry robes, vanity mirror, and, best of all, a heated main mirror which never steamed up during a shower. The hotel is easy to get to from the main approach roads from Madrid and the south and there is ample parking in the garage underneath. The staff were friendly and helpful and the nightly turndown service was a pleasant extra touch. I would highly recommend this hotel.

"Superb!"
We had a most enjoyable stay in this fantastic hotel. It was real 4-5 star luxury for us – even better, we felt, than our honeymoon hotel in Hong Kong last summer. The hotel is sumptuous, modern, bright and clean. The rooms even have menus for pillows (!) and even for pot pourri (!!) – how decadent is that?! Staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is only a few minutes walk from central Salamanca, but we were able to park our hire car in the garage (15 euros p.n.) – or rather the concierge did this for us. The buffet breakfast was first rate also. We got a great deal through Expedia (£48 for a double room, breakfast extra). I would go out of my way to recommend this luxury hotel – a real touch of class and by far the nicest hotel we have stayed in. If you have any chance of staying at this hotel – take it!! Unreservedly recommended.

We didn't try the restaurant, as we prefer to eat out, and Salamanca has some good places to try.
