"Superior Guest House Hotel"
Arrived in Edinburgh on June 23 without reservations. Stopped by a booking agency and found a room available at the Melvin Guest House Hotel for 3 nights. Hotel manager offered a reduced rate (80 GBP/night) for the hotel’s smallest room. Reluctant but desperate, so booked it for 3 nights.
Neighborhood is quite and charming but a 30-minute walk to the city center. Victorian style townhome converted to a classy hotel. Manager is very friendly and honest. Smallest room in the house is plenty big for two light-packing adults. The ensuite bathroom is almost as big as the “small” room. Charming furniture and décor. Good quality bed linens and towels. View of the village in the valley with stream running through.
Room rate includes a breakfast that will set you until late in the afternoon. Includes a cold buffet of fruit, cereals, and yogurt; Scottish porridge; choice of 4 hot breakfasts (one choice is full Scottish breakfast); and juice, coffee, or tea. All served by friendly waitresses.
Enjoyed the hotel and staff so much that we stayed on an extra 3 nights! |

"Brilliant!"
I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in February - and can highly recommend it! It is only a 5/10 minute walk to Princes Street (the main shopping street), and from here the other attractions are all easily accessible. We booked a standard double room which was a very good size, and had superb views of the castle. Everything in the hotel was very clean and well maintained, and the staff were very friendly and helpful! The breakfast was great, loads of choice. including cereal, fruit, cooked breakfast, muffins, cheese, ham, toast, croissants etc etc! I have recommended this hotel to everyone who wants to visit Edinburgh and will definitely be using it again myself! It offers exceptional value for money in a great location, you are just a 5 minute walk from some great restaurants. |

"great little traditional hotel in the centre of Edinburgh!"
I stayed at Melvin House for a long weekend in February 2005. Our room was at the back of the (impressive) building, and had fantastic far-reaching views towards Dean village and beyond. We had a Master room which was HUGE, nicely decorated in a traditional style, and very clean and comfortable. Location couldn't be better - only 5min walk to Princes Street but away from the hustle and bustle. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice, and service excellent. Overall a great little traditional hotel in the centre of Edinburgh - highly recommended! |
