"Nice place to stay!"
The Mendip House is quietly located outside the village of Frome and surrounded by beautiful landscape. We stayed there for two nights in November 2004 and enjoyed our time. The hotel consists of different parts which were probably built at different times. In the main building you'll find the reception, the bar and the restaurant all of which are furnished and decorated to a high standard as you would expect from a 3*** hotel. The guest rooms are in the annex which looks a bit basic from outside but is actually quite comfortable inside. Our room was spacious, nicely decorated, clean, with efficient central heating, tea and coffee making facilities and a pleasant bath-room with a bath-tub. We had a look into some of the triple bed rooms which were still spacious despite the addtional bed. The matress was a bit worn - however no great problem. From our window we could overlook the Mendip Hills - a splendid view. The annex and the main part of the hotel are connected through a corridor with large windows and tables/chairs where you can sit and enjoy the view. There is also a spacious patio with tables/chairs for the warmer days.
The breakfast buffet offered a good quality selection of English breakfast foods as well as a limited range of good quality foods for a continental breakfast. The breakfast room/restaurant was very comfortable, the only slightly negative point being the three young girls 'serving' in the breakfast room, as they didn't seem to have had appropriate training. The reception staff however were friendly and professional. The Mendip House is part of the Best Western chain, which offers reduced internet prices at specific times. We paid 45 Pound for a double room per night including breakfast, which we found to be very good value.
