"Great, central and friendly"
An excellent choice - got a good internet deal. Modern hotel incorporating parts of an earlier building. Within a stone`s throw of the main shopping street and five minutes walk from the heart of the old town. The room was modern with satelitte TV, bathroom with bath and a view to the back. The hotel is E shaped with the base of the E on the street and the top of the E being the older wing. In the basement is a sauna, steamroom and whirlpool - all very clean and amazingly quiet (I suppose it depends on the mix of guests). When we were there most guests were German. Breakfast is one of the most varied I have ever seen - cheeses, fruit, hot foods, cereals etc and even a waffle maker for making new waffles! The staff are very pleasant and helpful and I cannot recommend it more highly. The city was great and the restaurant in the castle is a must for views and modern ambience.

"Lovely!"
A very tastefully appointed and upscale new hotel within easy walking distance of the sights and train station with a very comfortable bar right in the lobby. Breakfast here is QUITE an amazing spread...a delight for the eye as well as the palate... and is in the wonderful old part of the building which is well worth spending time in. It will cost you an additional 14 Euro's per person however, so plan on enjoying a nice, leisurely Frustuck here. Our room was just a bit on the small side but not at all uncomfortably so. It was beautifully decorated with interesting architectural detail...not just a "box" as we have in the US. GREAT down comforters on the beds!
As for Erfurt itself...it is enjoying a lovely revival since the reunification of Germany. Beautiful restorations of old buildings have taken place and charming outdoor cafes are everywhere. My German relative attended university in Erfurt during the communist era when everything was crumbling here and he was delighted to see these changes. A beautiful, old medieval German city! I wish we had had more time to spend here!
