"a pleasant surprise"
This hotel was a cut above the usual Mercure standard. It is new and well-maintained. The rooms are small (as expected, but very clean, comfortable and well-laid out.) The staff are very courteous and the dining room was a very pleasant surprise. We cautiously dined there because nothing was open in the area. We did not expect much from a hotel dining room. However, it was the highlight of the stay. The portions are huge; the quality is excellent; the menu is fairly imaginative; the price is very modest, and they even serve an amuse bouche! We would have breakfasted there, but we had to leave the hotel before the dining room was open. The hotel is not as close to the main train station as the map would suggest. There are a myriad of tracks that makes it difficult and too far to walk to the station. There are also several one way streets which make taxi fares a bit more expensive. There is a U bahn station outside of the hotel, however. The area is very residential, with virtually nothing open on the weekends. However, there is a gas station with a very nice mini-market next door. The staff were very helpful and efficient. They graciously stored our bags upon checkout while we took a day trip to the nearby stage of the Tour de France. We had a very tight connection upon our return, and they were most helpful. I would definitely stay again even if the hotel is not in the city center.
