Metamorphis Hotel Metamorphis Hotel Metamorphis Hotel

  Hotel Information

Situated in the original walled area...

Metamorphis Hotel is situated in the original walled area called Ungelt-Týn Court-yard. If you enter from the eastern side, you will pass through the original gate, later joined together with the other houses.

By that time, three houses were standing there, one of them called the Blue House, nowadays the Hotel Metamorphis, with custom-house in their neighbourhood. During the 12th century, lively trading flourished here, ensuring economical prosperity of this important European trade intersection.

In the end of the 17th century, an outstanding architect named P. I. Bayer, who was removing the consequences of the great fire back during 1689, gave the Týn court-yard its present appearance.

LOCATION

Metamorphis Hotel is within 80 metres of Prague’s Old Town Square and the Charles Bridge.

"Great location; spacious rooms"
Great place to stay if you have three people. The room was spacious and the extra bed was comfortable. The breakfast was also great and you can't beat the location (just a 2 minute walk to the Old Square). The real beds are not very comfortable though.

"A great hotel in a great location"
We have spent lovely time at Metamorphis. We had a room 38 with huge bathroom and historical furniture. Breakfast is very rich (choice of hot and cold – enough for all gurmans) but it is better to come earlier.. My boyfriend found a free hotel Wifi internet so we were able to write emails . Hotel is about 150m meters from fabulous Old Town Square with astronomical clock. We ate just in hotel pizza restaurant in the ground space but they have one donwstairs too. We will book this hotel for our parents as a gift. They will love this romantic place. I can definatelly recommend it to my friends.

"perfect hotel"
We stayed for 2 nights and arrived by taxi from the airport (650k) The hotel is located in a small square/courtyard just behind the church of Our Lady of Tyn, a 2 minute walk from the Old Town Square. A perfect location for the old town, only 10 minutes to Charles Bridge and 15 minutes to the Castle. The hotel is very clean, the rooms are spacious and breakfast was superb. The restaraunt looked tempting but we ate out. There is a great cocktail bar around the corner (Bar and Books) and for the beer there is Fat Boys and Rouge literally on the doorstep. The coffee house at the opposite side of the small square served great Late. I am really glad we a stayed here and would certainly book again

"Excellent stay"
My friends and I wish to say how much we enjoyed our recent stay at your hotel. Our accommodation was superb, exceeded our expectations and was excellent value for money. The inclusive breakfast was plentiful and varied. Staff were courteous and helpful and the location of the hotel excellent, enabling easy access to all the many places of interest. We will be highly recommending your hotel to our friends and encouraging them to visit Prague. Andy Q.

"July trip with wife and young kid"
We, myself, wife and 7 year old kid did a 10 day trip to Budapest, Prague and Vienna earlier this month, July 2006. Thought I’d post my report on Prague as it was the most magical part of the trip. Airport Transfer: We had booked and got confirmation for the airport transfer from a taxi company who’s name eludes me now. Not C+K. Anyway they did not show up at the airport, but when I called them they were suitably remorseful and advised me to take AAA taxi from just outside the airport to the Hotel. The non negotiated rate was 500Kr. Big car, pleasant driver etc. So I think one doesn’t need to book taxis in advance when coming to Prague. Take a taxi from the airport. Don’t know how the situation is at night though. We reached at 2 in the afternoon. Hotel : Based on reviews here we selected Hotel Metamorphis near the old Town square. It is a beautiful hotel. Great location. Wonderful rooms and outstanding staff. We had requested for an AC room in advance given the heat. We got a nice big room, overlooking the courtyard. I advise getting an AC room, given the summers in Prague. We also got free breakfast added on, though it was not part of the original deal when we booked through Expedia. The only warning I would give is that the taxis booked through the hotel are very expensive, and the drivers are rather over ambitious wrt tips. Eg the taxi rate to the castle quoted is Kr 325. And when I gave the driver 500Kr on reaching he didn’t even bother giving any change back. Sights: Prague is full of beautiful sights everywhere. Every turn. Very difficult to choose. Anyway it is a very walkable city. I think the important bits are The Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town square, Municipal house, National Gallery, Old Jew town and the numerous galleries. We did the half day city tour on day 1, which I felt was a waste and they don’t really show anything more than the castle outside. We did The Castle on our own. Take ticket B as it allows you into the important places to see. The 12 pm change of guards is interesting, but is hyped up I think. We walked down the castle to the Charles Bridge and to the old town. If you’ve seen one at any castle in Europe, you’ve seen them all..my sentiment atleast. We went to a show at the Municipal house, a short walk from the hotel. Impressive building and a nice show as well. The hourly clock show in the clock tower in the old square is a nice act especially for kids to watch. We were there at the time of the World Cup Soccer so there was a big screen in the Old Town square which was packed with people. Great atmosphere and a great sight having these old buildings circling a modern spectacle. Besides we went to a puppet show at the National Theater. Great fun. Is about 2 hours long so have dinner before the show. Besides Prague is a great outdoor walking city. There are architectural masterpieces everywhere. The hotel is in the perfect location to go out for exploratory walks. Food: We are vegetarians so our options were limited to Italian joints mostly. Besides, for breakfast we went once to Ebel just across the courtyard from the Hotel and once to Bohemia Bagel round the corner from the hotel. Both good. Both recommended. We stumbled upon a bar called Bar and Books near Bohemia Bagel. Interesting place to go to for a drink. Very nice owner/manager. Very friendly. We also tried out a vegetarian Indian restaurant near Bohemia Bagel called Beas. Good food. Very cheap. I would think a three day trip is sufficient to cover Prague well.

"Great location"
My wife and I stayed in room 42 which was large, comfortable and with a great view over the square. The staff were helpful, particularly the receptionists, who were excellent. The hotel location couldn't be better. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Prague (if we can get room 42). Only complaint and it wouldn't stop us staying there again was that the towels supplied were incredibly small.
