Metropole Hotel Metropole Hotel Metropole Hotel

  Hotel Information

Metropole Hotel is an imposing Victorian building...

Metropole Hotel is an imposing Victorian building perched majestically on the crest of a gentle hill, overlooking the popular Cornish village of Padstow. In addition to being one of the county's prettiest fishing villages, Padstow is best-known for its seafood, which features, of course, on the hotel's AA Rosetted menu.

The village harbour is a working one and it's always a pleasure to watch the fishing boats return home to unload their catch, much of which is available in the village. A picnic lunch purchased in Padstow can be a veritable feast!

In fact, Padstow has quite a maritime history and there are some quirky facts to discover in the local museum. A myriad of winding streets filled with an eclectic selection of shops and galleries will keep you browsing for hours.
LOCATION

Metropole Hotel is in the Crown of the North Cornwall Coast.

Within 5 minutes of the hotel you can be pottering round the village. Within 10 minutes you can be setting up your spot for the day on a wide expanse of sandy beach (there are several to choose from nearby). Alternatively you can jump into the hotel's outdoor pool (open July/August) and just laze about in the gardens.

Attractions such as The Eden Project, Camel Valley Vineyard (best bubbly!), National Trust's Llanhydrock House and the private Pencarrow House are all within easy travelling distance. There's also plenty happening in the village, not least of which is Obby Oss Day on May 1st, when the streets are alive in celebration. It's an intriguing spectacle that draws people back time and again.
PROPERTY AMENITIES

* Inspiration drawn from the sea is evident in the delicious, seasonally changing menus that are freshly prepared each day in The Metrople's AA Rosette-awarded Restaurant. Head Chef Jonathan Guest makes good use of the abundance of high quality, local produce - meat, game and poultry, as well as the fish that Padstow is so famous for. A talented kitchen brigade also provides vegetarian options to tempt any discerning palates.

* The Met Café Bar is a pleasant place to enjoy a light lunch or Cornish Cream Tea and take in the beautiful view of Padstow Harbour and the Camel Estuary.

* In addition to some of the best views of Padstow, it also has an outdoor swimming pool (open July/August) in sheltered grounds and plenty of guest parking.
ROOM AMENITIES

* The 50 bedrooms are all en-suite with the facilities you would expect from a quality establishment including Dataports.

* The hotel has 3 types of bedroom: Premier (some with 4 poster beds), Select (with views over the harbour or estuary) and Standard, all equipped with hospitality tray, remote control colour TV, radio, hairdryer and direct dial telephone.

"Traditional Hotel"
We stayed at the Metropole for a long weekend for my husband's birthday. We had a fantastic stay and part of that was due to this lovely hotel! Yes, the hotel is crumbling on the outside but it is an old victorian building and we found that it added to the atmosphere. Inside, the staff are very welcoming, the food is excellent and the rooms are comfortable. The staff could not do enough to help. We especially liked their welcome after a long drive - complimentary tea or coffee in the lounge (great view of harbour). This was such a nice touch and much appreciated. I adored the food in this hotel - dare I say it was better than Rick Stein's restaurant?! Well I thought so but my husband disagreed! The rooms are traditionally decorated and comfortable, we liked the individual decor. You don't feel like you're in a hotel chain at all. The hotel has a great position in the town and overlooks the harbour and the shops. It has a small car park but there is plenty of parking nearby if this is full. We stayed at this hotel on a 3 nights for 2 offer of £150 each. This included a sea view room, breakfast and dinner. Overall, a lovely traditional English hotel (just how we like them) and that's a compliment as there aren't that many around these days.
