"Excellent hotel at reasonable rate"
We stayed at the Millennium Hilton for 3 nights in early July and really enjoyed it. The hotel is on the other side of the river so we had to take the hotel shuttle boat back and forth. The Peninsular hotel is not far from the Hilton, on the same side of the river as the Hilton. The Sheraton, Shangri La, and Oriental hotels are across the river from the Hilton. The Hilton is a brand new hotel with very modern décor. The lobby is very big with 4 floor high ceiling. However, the lobby also very smelly from the stinky river it’s on. We’re Hilton Gold member and booked a regular room and were upgraded to the 27th Executive floor with free breakfast. It really pays to stay at the same hotel chain to build up the points. Our room was small with a large window overlooking the river and city high rises. We had a beautiful view. There is no wall separating the bathroom from the bed. There is a blind but no wall. There was fruit basket on the tale but the fruit wasn’t too fresh. The room was comfortable like a Hilton room. There was this big floor lap next to the desk that took up space and hard to reach to turn it on/off. I don’t know what the decorator was thinking putting a space eater in a small room. Breakfast at the 360 Degree restaurant on top of the hotel was excellent. Like the name implied, the restaurant has 360 degree view of the Bangkok skyline. Food was excellent. There was a Japanese spread at the entrance. Sushi looks like they’ve been there for a while. I didn’t try them. There is hot food, order to make waffle, eggs cooked anyway you like, all sorts of western breakfast food and beautifully cut and arranged fresh tropical fruit. Breakfast there was a great way to start the day. The hotel provided free 2 shuttle boats crossing the river, 1 to the sky train station and the public boat duck. The other goes directly across the river to the River City shopping mall. River City shopping mall has restaurant and upscale furniture and antique shops. It’s not the regular shopping mall. We took the shuttle boat to the public boat duck where we catch a public boat (like bus) to the Grand Palace. It was only 13 baht (US$0.40) for the public boat ride. They have tourist boat for 100 hath for the day. I don’t think it’s worth it because you won’t have time to ride the boat that many times. Taking the public boat with the orange flag to the Grand Palace, get off stop #9 was the best way to go. Don’t worry about not knowing your way. Just ask the ticket person at on the boat where to get off. They all speak English. Also you can buy the ticket on the boat so no need to find the ticket desk on the dock. They charge the same price for buying the ticket on the dock and on the boat. We spent over 5 hours at the Grand Palace and took the public boat back. It was very hot and humid so we need a break from the heat and had free tea and cookies at the 360 Degree restaurant. We also had lunch at the main restaurant on the 1st floor of the hotel. The food was very good and not too expensive. The pool was on the 4th floor, very different than other pool I saw. It looks like the water is running off the building. They also had a small sandy area to resemble the beach, pretty neat. Overall it’s a great hotel for a reasonable price. We paid US$150/night on the Hilton website. We had dinner at the Shangri La hotel’s Thai restaurant, very nice place, excellent food with classical Thai dance. Then we laid by the pool at the Shangri La hotel after dinner. It was the oasis in the city jungle. It felt like we were in the peaceful resort away from the noise, dust, and heat of the smelly city.

"Great hotel in Bangkok"
We've been in this great hotel four nights, and we just can say that is one of the gratest deal we have made. The service is really good, with nice people who help you up to the maximum comfort. Our room (a deluxe one with a view to the harbour) was in the 22nd floor, an impressive view and really good quality, really showing a five star hotel standard. The hotel is on the "other side" of the harbour, and as all the rest hotels in the area they provide free boats to cross the river in a short wait. The swimming pool is open air in the fourth floor, with king size matresses and really nice at night. The rest of the facilities such as gym, etc we didn't visit them. Food was really good, with local and western options, always in the helpful thai style. In conclusion, if we are back to Bangkok we will consider seriously to be back to this hotel.

"Great hotel for the price on the river"
If you want to stay on the river & not pay a lot of money, this is a great choice. Like the Peninsula, this hotel is across the river from the rest of the city, but that is why this hotel gives you a fantastic view that hotels on the other side do not have. The hotel has a boat that takes you across the river to River City (antique shopping mall) or to the sky train, which helps you avoid dealing with Bangkok traffic. The boats leave every 15 minutes. Reg. rooms can be booked for under $100, but if you can afford it I strongly recommend upgrading to a suite over the river for a total cost of about $150++ per night. You will have access to the executive lounge on the 31st floor including free breakfast, alchoholic drinks in the evening, etc. If you are willing to spend more, we would recommend the Peninsula, which is the best hotel in Bangkok (we think better than the Oriental). We booked at a $150 corporate rate & were offered upgrade to a suite for another $80 which was well worth (rack rate above $500). Service at the Hilton was extremely good - much better than the Bangkok Four Seasons but not as good as the Peninsula. The breakfast buffet downstairs on the river (ask them to include it if you get the suite) was expansive & impressive. Pool has limited appeal. If you think you'll be laying out, I would suggest considering another property. As for staying downtown or on the river, we just love the view and watching all the commerce activity on the river. Downtown hotels, for the most part, have no view and nothing to watch other than the hotel pool or city street.
