"MonteLago made for a Happy Holiday"
I stayed at the MonteLago resort Vierra condos during Christmas week and it was a wonderful time. Lake Las Vegas is definately unlike anything one would imagine in the Las Vegas area. The condos are upscale, and the village is reminiscent of southern Italy as opposed to southern Nevada. When checking in, the front desk woman allowed me to pick among the available rooms as to get the best lake view. The employees of the condo complex went out of their way to be nice and helpful the entire trip. Just remember, this is not a hotel so you cannot get room service. The entire village was decorated with Christmas lights, etc...And there was a floating ice rink for the kids to skate to Christmas carols as well. We felt no need to venture to the strip while here. (Been there, done that) But only a 5 minute drive away is the town of Henderson which has all the usual stores and fast food outlets if needed. Bottom line, if you are looking for a peaceful yet charming European village atmosphere, MonteLago is a great place to spend some time. If you are looking for mobs of people, traffic, and exploding volcanos, then the strip is for you. Comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges. For me, Lake Las Vegas is a great place to spend the holidays.

"it's a condo, not a hotel: peaceful, professionally run"
I once read that in a fine hotel there is an incredible amount of frantic activity going on behind the scenes, but what the guest sees is perfect serenity where all their needs are taken care of. We stayed here 5 nights in July, 2006, and found Montelago to be very relaxing. We never felt there was something needed that we didn't have. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment. In a closet we found a machine which is a clothes washer in one mode and a dryer in the other. The full kitchen included a dishwasher, and all the cooking utensils you might need. There's a small market close by in the village that sells dishwasher detergent and laundry detergent (and gourmet-oriented groceries, wine, sundries, books, magazines...). If you are looking for the standard hotel services, you might be disappointed. There is no restaurant or snack bar, no room service (I assume - we never actually looked to see if there is), no staff to carry your bags for you. These are condos which management rents out when the owners are not there. There *is* a front desk and they were friendly and helpful, as were the maintenance staff and the housekeeping staff. There are no shops at all in the building. But the surrounding village provides some, and Henderson has everything. We particularly enjoyed the pool area (clean, very pretty, and open 24/7) and the view from our balcony. If you like to have breakfast on your balcony, try to get a lake view room on the East side ( the building is "U" shaped and these rooms are on the right side of the "U" facing inward). It's in the shade in the morning - important if it's hot outside. The kayaks for rent were really fun. The apartments are very nice and very clean. We needed pillow cases for the sofa bed (pillows and blankets were found in the master bedroom closet) and they were brought to us right away. Our room was "done" every day. The housekeeping staff was very nice - they smiled, seemed happy and made eye contact when we encountered them. Some things to be aware of - the summer is their slow period. So the village is pretty empty and the businesses don't stay open late. But on the other hand you can go out to the pools and get lounge chairs in the shade at any time of the day, and a fair chance of having a pool to yourself. Another possible negative is that you may be frustrated if you don't have a car with you, unless you plan to spend your entire time in Lake Las Vegas.

"The best ever!!!"
My husband and I have stayed in 5 star hotels all over the world. The first time we stayed in Vegas we stayed at the Venetion which was lovely but way too big and not very personal and although I enjoyed being so close to all the lovely venues it was just to much of everything. That is when we found lake las vegas-hotel montelago. It is a beautiful, quiet hotel that is Tuscan inspired with its own Ponte Vecchio (the Ritz). It has it's own man made lake and has a desert oasis feel to it. It is only 15-20 min from the strip so you can enjoy the shows, etc. in the big city with the Montelago feeling of tranquilty and luxuary.
