There has never been a question as to its legendary Victorian elegance...
Built in 1912, Negresco Hotel is a magnificent, privately owned Belle Epoque palace, classified as a National Historic Monument. The hotel is ideally situated on the seafront promenade overlooking the scenic Bay of Angels on the Mediterranean Sea. The spectacular salons are richly furnished with a superb personal collection of antiques and extraordinary contemporary works of art. The creative guest rooms, with evocative names like the Suite Louis XVI, Pompadour, and La Traviata, are a unique harmony of history, tradition, and modernity.
As for the hotel itself, there has never been a question as to its legendary Victorian elegance: Overlooking the blue Mediterranean on the Promenade des Anglais, the Negresco is palatial in its every detail. The airy interior, flowered terraces and spacious bedrooms are exquisite. There is a full range of conference facilities and the overall service is impeccable. There is a private beach for guests and golf & tennis are available nearby.
The reception area is medium in size and simply furnished in comparison with the other public rooms, which are enormous and magnificently appointed. The main room is very imposing. Situated beneath a stained glass dome, it hosts a good selection of deluxe boutiques and can be used for large cocktail receptions. It also features original paintings and statues by famous artists. Its centre piece is a marvellous crystal chandelier.
The Negresco’s collection of art spans five centuries and includes work by Salvador Dali and Niki de Saint Phalle, as well as more traditional art. Situated in the arcade of the magnificent Salon Royal, boutiques sell ceramics, clothing, jewelry, household goods, collectible toys, and many objets d’art. |

"A fabulous location with magical views"
A superb hotel situated in an unrivalled location in the heart of Nice. A truly beautiful setting right on the Promenade offers magically breathtaking panorama of the Bay of Angels. We stayed in the Marquise de Pompadour Suite (Suite 512 - featuring a small balcony facing the sea). The room itself, although furnished with valuable antiques, appeared a bit cheesy, particularly with the gold tubs and toilet, not to mention the plastic covered headboard and even the silk wall panels were covered in vinyl. It looked and felt ridiculous in a hotel of this price and category. Not to make a big fuss over such trivial details as we had a very enjoyable stay. We definitely recommend this hotel and will certainly return on our next visit to Nice.

"Very comfortable"
I am little surprised to see some of the negative reviews as we had a very lovely time at the Negresco, and I'm usually quite difficult to please.
We were given an upgrade from a double to a junior suite on arrival (I had booked through the Leading Hotels of the World website) and we were shown to our room courteously and efficiently, with a little box of complimentary chocolates. I do agree the hotel is a bit "old fashioned" looking but then it is quite unique and we certainly didn't have any plastic headboard coverings. I also enjoying looking at the antiques in our room and on each floor.
I agree the Rotonda restaurant decor is rather camp and a bit strange, but for one day's dining it was quite funny and ok - the prices there are reasonable for the Riviera. For breakfast we usually had it in our room as we had a lovely view of the sea and the breakfast isn't included in our tariff.
I should add that there are charges in summer for using the Negresco's beach facilities but this is quite common in Nice and Cannes. (15 euros per person for the day)
The Michelin starred gourmet restaurant, Le Chantecleer, is tastefully furnished, elegant, excellent service and food, and not too overpriced.
PS. They were also very helpful when we needed to hire a car for one day - they had a reputable, English-speaking agent who got the car delivered over directly to our hotel (to save us hunting for car hire), and explained the terms and conditions efficiently, with only a small service charge, which was worth paying to avoid the hassle.
The only small niggle was that there were small errors with bill items (like charging for 2 coffees instead of 1, or forgetting to bring an invoice up with room service), but the receptionist was quick to correct these without any quibbles.
Overall, one of the most comfortable, efficient and pleasant hotels I've ever stayed at in Europe.

"Very Nice-Great Location"
Stayed at this hotel in May 2006 for 7 nights. The Location can't be beat. We "snuck" three people in the room for two nights as I was leaving my parents and joining up with friends in Cannes. My parents used Nice and the Negresco as a base for exploring the Riviera. We stayed in a Junior Suite and got an AMAZING rate on expedia. The room
was very spacious and the bathroom was very large. For being one of the top properties in Nice, it was an exceptional value. The concierge were extremely helpful in assisting us with any of our questions. The hotel is gorgeous-beautiful artwork throughout. in your rate-I would suggest going elsewhere.
