"Loved the Novotel"
This hotel is very central and easy to find. Valet parking is good and very reasonable. Carpet in lobby area and lift looks well worn and a bit tired but the room was really good. Good size and very clean also the colour scheme was nice. Was on the 10th floor so view was great.

"Modern, Stylish Comfort"
My wife and I stayed at the Novotel for three nights in Feb. 2007. We were traveling New Zealand by bus and so we arrived in Wellington at the bus terminal, which is adjacent to the main train terminal. It was quite easy to get a shared van to the hotel, which is probably too far to walk with luggage, but was a fairly quick taxi transfer.
The Novotel is right next to the popular Chancellor Hotel. The Chancellor is a bit more upscale than the Novotel but I believe it is pricier, too. Both are located on The Terrace, just above the entrance to the cable car on Lamberton Quay, and within walking distance of most major sites. Access to Lamberton Quay is by elevator – Novotel during the day, and the Chancellor next door at night.
Our room (#906) had a partial view of the harbor. It was large and well-appointed in a modern, sleek, Euro style. We had two very comfortable double beds, and a desk/dresser unit that provided plenty of counter space. There was also a comfortable reading chair, minibar, and built-in closet. The attractive tiled bathroom was large with a tub/shower combo and single sink.
We found the front desk staff very friendly and helpful. Overall, the Novotel is very comfortable, convenient, and good value on weekends though much higher during the week. If you can get an acceptable rate we recommend it highly.

"very nice stay!"
We stayed at the Novotel Capital for 2 nights at the start of our 3 week NZ vacation. We drove in from Palmerston North, and found the hotel very easily off the highway. At the front desk, I requested a room with a view, if available. We ended up in a very nice room near the top floor with a great view of the harbor! The hotel is located in a convenient area, though it seems to be a bit more in the business district than the tourist district. But Wellington is so small it doesn' t matter much! The room was very nicely appointed, and extremely clean. We thought the bathroom was very nice compared to some other NZ hotels we stayed in - it was stylish and modern. We even got a nice tip from one of the hotel staff (an American) who told us we'd get a better internet rate down the street at an internet cafe than using the lobby computers, which were quite expensive to use. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Novotel and would recommend it to anyone!
