"Decent hotel"
This is the second time I've stayed in this hotel in 18 months and would like to make a post in favour of it. First of all understand its a Novotel with over 600 rooms so its going to be busy and its not going to have the charm of a city centre olde worlde hotel. What you get is a decent sized room with a comfortable bed and adequately sized bathroom with a separate WC. The hotel is located just off the peripherique which according to the Parisiennes makes it outside Paris. It is 5 minutes walk from Galieni Metro station on Line 3 which will take you to Opera in about 20 minutes. There is also a well served bus station adjacent to the Metro station. A cab ride out of hours from eg Rue Rivoli is about 17 Euros. There is a shopping centre next to the station with a variety of food outlets including a branch of Paul (the patisserie). There is also a large Auchan supermarket for those of you wanting to stock up on supplies for a day out.
There are a few restaurants nearby but if you want a good selection you just jump on the metro and get off 2 stops down at Gambetta where you will find lots of brasseries, bistros and international restaurants. You will in Avenue de Pyranees find a wonderful selection of French food shops and a street full of Parisiennes as opposed to tourists - it is one of my favourite streets in all of Paris.
I agree that it is wonderful to step outside a hotel and see the Eiffel Tower - which isn't the case here -but if you like me would rather get a bargain and make your money go further then this is a good hotel.

"Good hotel"
If you don't like a low-budget hotel this is a good alternative. For a few euro's more you can stay in a stressless atmosphere.
It's no problem if you travel by car, because there is a safe indoor parking ( €16.00 for 24 hours). The metro is not far ( 200 m.)and there is a shoppingmall near the metrostation ( closed on sundays). In the hotel there are large groups of Asian tourists. The ambiance in the hotel is relaxed and the rooms are clean and spacious. Breakfast( €13.00 p.p.) is not included. If you wish a middle-class hotel near the peripherique, this is a good choice.

"Great service for groups"
I was in october 2005 with a group from Chile in Novotel Porte de Bagnolet by second time. Always I feel the staff is very helpful, professional and warm. The rooms are spaciously, clean and cosy. Breakfast is very basic, but normal for tourist class hotel. I think that it could be richer in not expensive think like french croissants, yogurt may be, but I insist, it's a tourist class hotel.
The lobby is always full with groups, many arriving and others leaving, but thats is the spirit of tourism.
I consider it's a very good option for travelers, wich want to know Paris and sleep in a good and not expensive hotel. Metro is nearby, there is also a shopping mall with fast food restaurants, supemarket, and you can take the metro direct to the Opera, and reach it in no ore that 20 min.
