"Great Apartments, Fine Location"
I stayed for one month at Oakwood during december 2005 and early January 2006. I had myself picked up arranged by Oakwood at the airport, which they charge 700 baht for. You could easily get a taxi outside which will not cost you more then around 250 baht.
Checking in was easy and fast and you get a fresh drink. They showed me to my one bed room apartment (70sqm) which looked very nice. The room features a private (small) balcony, living area, very big bedroom, bathroom with bathtub, and a kitchen uncluding utensils. After abtout 30 minutes they will bring you a small "starterskit" from the minimart with some bread, milk and jam. The apartment itself was very clean, a very big, comfortable king sized bed in which i slept comfortable every day if i was in :-) Only the television was very small and placed alsmost at floor level. over 30 channels however, i think it was the UBC Gold package. Good enough.
Furthermore they have wonderful gym which is never filled with people, a large free form swimming pool, a mini mart where you can buy all small necessaties and they also deliver to your room. A fine restaurant with international/thai and also Japanese food. THe Thai food was so so (as i heard from my thai friends), but the international food was excellent.
THe location on naradhiwas 24 is not perfect indeed, because whereever you go, you need to take a taxi. Don't go during rush hours between 4 and 7 pm, because you won't go anywhere if you need to cross sathorn. After 7 it gets better quickly. Early afternoons is fine also.
Taxi to Silom only 50 baht if you know the way and dont let the taxi driver cheat you (it still happens sometimes).
The service at Oakwood is at a very high level. Knowledgeable people, efficient and friendly housekeeping, friendly staff and fast roomservice, i believe until 2am but i am not sure about that. It is at a very quiet location in a busy business center.
Laundry service is not as expensive as normal hotels would charge you, if you allow them three days to clean. If you need to ur clothes back faster, prices increases!
I would, without hesitation, recommend this place to anyone who is not an a very tight budget, and not in need to travel during high traffic Hours.

"Great service at Oakwood as always"
I have stayed at Oakwood a couple of times, most recently in October 2006 on business. My company always uses Oakwood primarily for it's location near our office there, but also for the great service and value for money.
I had a one room apartment this time, with a small private balcony overlooking the pool area. The bedroom was very spacious with 2 single beds, both of which were very comfortable. The air conditioning is fabulous at Oakwood - a small thing, but coming from Scotland to Bangkok in winter - well, I really appreciated it!
The rooms are very clean and are serviced every day. The one day I had a lie in and pottered around the apartment, I received a note and a phonecall asking me if I needed anything as the maids could not get in the room - nice to be asked.
The facilities at the hotel are great - room service is VERY quick and very cheap. The food is good and plentiful at breakfast.
The concierge out front will hail a taxi to take you anywhere you need to go and give directions to the driver in Thai. They will also note the time of your departure and taxi number in case of problems later. I found that many taxi drivers had difficulty understanding me, even in Thai, when I was giving directions back to Oakwood, so make use of the card they give you at check in with the name and address of the hotel written in Thai.
The front desk will also help with directions and travel plans within in the city and write anything down you may need in Thai. You might feel a little silly asking, but it will really help.
Some others have mentioned the possibility of being ripped off by taxi drivers. Always use a licensed cab and when you get in, before setting off, ensure the taxi driver uses the metre. For tuk tuks, agree a price before you get in. It's fun to haggle a little, but when you think about how little you are paying for the journey, it's best not to haggle TOO much - ripping off works 2 ways after all! Tuk tuks are fun and cheap - but avoid rush hour, as the smog is a real killer. I'd rather take a tuk tuk than a taxi, for the fun!
As a lone female, there was never a moment I felt unsafe, even in the busy areas at night. Bangkok is a safe destination for lone females. The BTS is a great way to get around, altho a bit expensive for many Thais - it's clean, reliable and very quick.
People take taxis everywhere, even short distances, because of the heat and humidty. Expect to pay around 40 bhat to the nearest BTS station to Oakwood - a bargain!
Top tip - damnoen saduak trip - aka the floating market. Book ahead and leave early in the morning to beat the crowds. have breakfast when you get there - it's a little touristy now, but really has to be experienced! Oh, and try the snakehead fish!

"Wonderful experience"
I stayed at the Oakwood for several weeks and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I stayed in a double room that was quite spacious with a small kitchenette attached that had all the necessary utensils for cooking meals etc. A small balcony overlooked the swimming pool. The room was air-conditioned, had cable tv and a nice little stereo system that I made good use of. The bathroom was adequate, I prefer a separate shower rather than one in the bath-tub but only a minor complaint. The room was cleaned daily, except Sundays, and the cleaners did a great job. Also, whenever I called for service the staff were always very prompt in their attendance. Generally, all the staff at Oakwood are very efficient, friendly and attentive to your needs. On the fourth floor is situated the swimming pool, a wonderful gym, mini-mart and restaurant. The quality of the food is very good and reasonably priced. There is also a snooker table and golf driving range available on one of the lower levels. The area surrounding Oakwood is rather drab and nondescript. There is a small row of shops about 200 metres down the road ( you turn right on exiting Oakwood), including a Seven Eleven and another mini-mart (there is an ATM here) Starbucks, a couple of massage parlours, a chemist, laundry, and a couple of cafes. As with most parts of Bangkok there is no shortage of transportation. Grab a taxi from the front of Oakwood and remember to take the hotel card with you if taking a taxi back as it has directions in Thai. All in all I had a wonderful experience staying here and would not hesitate to stay here again in the future.
