PROPERTY AMENITIES

* La Broche:
Everything from the walls to the gauze-covered windows, leather chairs, marble floors, linen cloths, orchids, and Limoges porcelain is white at this dazzling restaurant, expertly run by media darling chef Sergi Arola. The two-Michelin starred cuisine is based in Spanish Mediterranean cooking but seeks inspiration from all over the world. Fresh herbs are bought daily, measured for each portion, and displayed in test tubes. Oils are poured into pharmaceutical style bottles, adding to the clinical touch.

* Arco:
A la carte but informal dining at this restaurant focuses on Spanish Mediterranean cuisine for lunch and dinner and extensive buffet. The parquet floor is offset by caramel-colored leather banquets and small chandeliers. There are 80 covers.and street access.

* The Miguel Angel Bar:
Located at the far end of the lobby to the right, this bar is decorated with a mix of low, black leather chairs, fabric-covered sofas, an 18th-century wardrobe, and real fireplace. Soft and alcoholic drinks and snacks are served all day at the wooden bar. There is live piano music every evening.

* The Pergola:
Located at the far end of the lobby overlooking the garden, this glass-roofed conservatory has a white marble floor and cheerful painted wooden table tops with wrought iron legs. Tea and coffee is served in this brightly lit space all day. It is also a popular spot for cocktails and refreshments for businesspeople on a break (the meeting rooms are adjacent).

* The Miguel Angel Garden:
This terraced garden, set on three levels, has two rows of tall fir trees and bay trees in pots. Breakfast is served here from June to August, and dinner from mid-June to September. There are 80 covers, some shade, and fans to protect against the heat of summer. A small kitchen in a wooden chalet ensures food is very fresh.

* The hotel features a spa with a range of facilities including a jetted tub, contrast shower, aroma shower, Turkish bath, Finnish sauna, and pool.

* The gym features a small selection of cardiovascular machines. The garden, open in spring and summer, brings a touch of tranquility to this bustling hotel - offering a place to stroll or dine al fresco.

* There are ten meeting rooms - the largest, known as the Medici and located on the mezzanine level, has a capacity for 200 theater style, and can be split into three modular areas. Senoria, suitable for private dinners or small meetings, has original 18th-century furniture.

ROOM AMENITIES

* The hotel offers 263 soundproof single and double rooms, featuring an en-suite bathroom with hairdryer.

"A solid citizen"
We stayed at the Miguel Angel while in Madrid in late August/early September 2006 for a wedding. There were a number of people in our party -- four rooms in all. The rooms were updated, comfortable, clean and large (for a 4 star hotel). Hotel service was excellent. Housekeeping cleaned the bedrooms in the morning while we were out and turned down beds in the evening while we were at dinner. The hotel concierges were exceptional -- providing information on Madrid and restaurants, but also helping to track down lost baggage (making numerous phone calls on our behalf). Excellent breakfast buffet. The location (less than 100 yards from a subway station) is excellent.

"Slightly short of perfect"
The Occidental Miguel Angel is not in the town centre, which really was a blessing. There is a metro station just outside the door, which meant that we could get anywhere we wanted without any effort, but could sleep in blissful silence, without the traffic noises and questionable pedestrian hordes. The spa/pool area is lovely, although one must question why there are only 3 lounge chairs when there is clearly space enough for several more. Our room was a good size and well appointed. The one complaint was the amenities. In a 5* hotel, one expects to find a box of tissues rather than a little packet with a few rough tissues. The toilet paper is also very rough and not at all what should be in a hotel of this caliber. The strangest thing is the flush - it goes on for at least 40 seconds (or at least it did in room 612), which has got to be the least ecological flushing system anywhere. The first 2 nights cost us 160 Euros p/night and included breakfast. The 3rd night cost 199 Euros and did not exclude breakfast! There is a Starbucks across the street, so no need to spend 20 Euros on a not-so-special breakfast at the hotel. We would certainly return to this hotel, but would bring our own tissues and toilet paper!

"Great location, great hotel"
This hotel made my stay in Madrid very enjoyable. Found the front desk staff to be very accommodating and extremely helpful. They held my luggage for a late train without any charge thus allowing me to see the city. This location is right next to a Metro stop making it convenient for getting around. Though minutes away from downtown, it was within walking distance of many restaurants and bars. The spa with all it has to offer (heated pool, gym steam room, sauna and largest jacuzzi I have ever been in) was a nice respite from the bustling city. There is no charge for its use for hotel guests.The only downside was that my room was located on a lower floor on the front of the building, thus allowing traffic noise to permeate into the room. I would definitely stay here again.

"Great!"
Stayed here for a weekend. Food was very good. Room was very nice. And we both really enjoyed the spa and pool. On my next visit to Madrid, I will stay here again.

"Great Hotel, Location"
Spent three nights here in August 2004 booked with Expedia PROS: Very clean large rooms. Reasonable price for room. Nice Bathrooms Little chocolates on the bed made a nice touch Great location, very centrally located. Walking distance from malls. Right on the subway and bus route so easy accessible to all parts of Madrid. In-room safe TV with lots of channels (English as well) Nice garden terrace in the back CONS: Internet was slow and not free No breakfast included Restaurants are a bit of a walk however it's Spain so it was enjoyable. Gym was relocated during reconstruction, not very good In August a lot of places are closed due to Spanish vacations during the month, so best to go not in July or August. Great hotel for a stay in Madrid to see the city.

"Great Hotel, Excellent Location"
Just returned from a three night stay at this hotel. My wife and I thought the hotel was real value for money with an excellent spa and gym area. A previous review suggest we have a non smoking room at the back of the hotel, which we did and it was worth it. The room was well decorated and very clean, none of the "stains" read about in other reviews. Room service good at reasonable prices. With the Metro station only 20 yards from the door of the hotel going out day and night could not have been easier. We intend to go back to Madrid next spring and will stay here again.
